This easy pumpkin fluff dip is a sweet, creamy, make-ahead dessert dip made with pumpkin purée, vanilla pudding, warm spices, and whipped topping. It takes minutes to make and seconds to disappear at fall potlucks and holiday parties!

Pumpkin Fluff Ingredients
You’ll need only 4 ingredients to whip up this creamy, flavorful pumpkin dip in minutes. Scroll to the recipe card for exact ingredient amounts and complete instructions.
- Pumpkin Purée – Please use 100% canned pumpkin purée or homemade slow cooker pumpkin purée, and not pumpkin pie filling. They aren’t the same product.
- Instant Vanilla Pudding Mix – You can use the fat-free, sugar-free version, but it’s totally fine to use regular pudding mix, too!
- Cool Whip – If you’d rather skip the Cool Whip, no worries! You can easily make your own fresh whipped cream instead.
- Spices – You will need pumpkin pie spice, nutmeg, and pure vanilla extract. You can also use a blend of cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, and cloves if you have them in the spice rack.
Can I Substitute the Cool Whip?
Absolutely! This pumpkin fluff recipe works with homemade whipped cream, too. Here’s my quick and easy recipe:
- Start with cold tools. Before you make whipped cream, chill the mixing bowl and whisk attachment in the freezer for 10-15 minutes (or in the fridge for 30 minutes). Cold tools make the whipping process quicker.
- Combine. Add 1 cup of heavy cream to the cold bowl. Begin beating the cream on low speed. As the cream thickens, gradually increase to medium-high speed and add 2 tablespoons of powdered sugar. If you’d like, add a half-teaspoon of vanilla extract.
- Whip. Keep beating until the whipped cream forms a medium peak that droops slightly when you lift the whisk. I suggest preparing your whipped cream right before it’s time to fold it into the dip.
How to Make Pumpkin Fluff Dip
Let’s turn our attention to making this easy pumpkin fluff. This dip needs a couple of hours to chill in the fridge, so you can make it ahead and it’ll be ready to eat when guests arrive.

- Mix the ingredients. In a large bowl, combine the pumpkin and vanilla pudding mix. Stir in the pumpkin pie spice, ground nutmeg, and vanilla extract.
- Add the Cool Whip. Next, fold in the whipped topping with a rubber spatula.
- Pop it in the fridge. Cover and chill the dip for 2 hours, or until cold.
- Serve. Enjoy your delicious pumpkin dip with fruit, cookies, pretzels, and any dippers you’d like! See below for serving ideas.
Recipe Tips and Variations
- Adjust the consistency. If this pumpkin fluff dip turns out too thick for your liking, thin it out with extra whipped topping or even a splash of heavy cream. If it’s too thin, refrigerate it for a while; it tends to thicken as it chills.
- Chill before serving. For the best flavor and consistency, refrigerate the pumpkin fluff for at least 1-2 hours before serving. This lets the flavors meld and helps it firm up.
- Spice it up. While pumpkin pie spice is the go-to, experiment with individual spices like cinnamon, nutmeg, or clove to fine-tune the flavor to your liking.
- For a sweeter dip, drizzle in some maple syrup or honey.
- For a lighter pumpkin fluff dip, consider using low-fat whipped topping or softened cream cheese.
- Add-ins: Add mini chocolate chips, toffee bits, or crushed gingersnap cookies to the dip for added texture and flavor.
- Make it dairy-free. Use coconut whipped cream or another dairy-free whipped cream alternative.
- Seasonal variations: For a unique twist, swap pumpkin with other purées, like sweet potato or butternut squash.

What to Serve With Pumpkin Fluff Dip
I love making a full appetizer spread with charcuterie, dippers, and other tasty dips, like crab rangoon dip. These are just a few easy pairings with this creamy pumpkin fluff:
- Apple slices
- Grapes
- Nuts (walnuts, pecans, almonds)
- Graham crackers
- Vanilla wafers or white chocolate chip cookies
- Mini marshmallows (these are also fun sprinkled on top!)
- Pretzels and crackers

Notes
- Quantity: This recipe makes 2 cups of Pumpkin Fluff Dip.
- Ingredients: Use pure pumpkin puree, not pumpkin pie filling.
- Consistency: If the dip is too thick, thin it out with a bit more whipped topping. If it’s too thin, refrigerate it for a while because the dip thickens as it chills.
- Chill Before Serving: Refrigerate the pumpkin fluff dip for at least an hour before serving. This allows the flavors to meld and the dip to firm up.
- Vanilla Pudding: If you can’t find a 3.4-ounce box of Instant Vanilla Pudding, you can use two of the 1.5-ounce boxes.
- Dairy-Free: For those with dietary restrictions, you can make this dip dairy-free by using coconut whipped cream or other dairy-free alternatives.
- Storage: Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator. It should be good for 3-5 days, but always do a taste and smell test before serving again.
- Chill your mixing bowl and your mixer’s beaters in the refrigerator for about 30 minutes.
- Remove the chilled bowl and beaters from the refrigerator and pour 1 cup of (cold) heavy whipping cream into the bowl. Whip using an electric mixer, beginning at low speed and gradually increasing to medium-high.
- As the cream thickens, incorporate 2 tablespoons powdered sugar and optional 1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract, continuing to mix until you achieve medium peaks. That is, a semi-sturdy peak should form. When you lift up the beaters, the peaks will slightly go down but not lose their shape.
