These easy patriotic fruit kabobs are the cutest no-bake dessert for Memorial Day, the 4th of July, or any summer party! Made with juicy strawberries, sweet blueberries, and cubes of store-bought pound cake, they’re fun to assemble and even more fun to eat. And let’s not forget the boozy chocolate dipping sauce, which is perfect for dunking fruit, cake, or whatever else ends up on your skewer.

Can you believe we’re already halfway through the year?! I’m not sure how that happened, but here we are: sunshine, cookouts, and all the red, white, and blue vibes.

If you’re celebrating Memorial Day, the 4th of July, or just showing up to a summer party with dessert in hand, these fruit kabobs are the easiest win. It’s just fresh strawberries, juicy blueberries, and cubes of pound cake threaded onto skewers. They’re the kind of fruit skewers that both kids and adults love, and they’re super simple to prep ahead of time.

I serve them with a boozy chocolate dipping sauce (or keep it booze-free for the kiddos). It’s silky, chocolatey, and pairs perfectly with fruit, cake, or just a spoon. Whether you’re grilling or chilling this holiday, this fun fruit kabobs recipe belongs on your dessert table.

Fruit Kabobs Recipe Ingredients

  • Blueberries – These make up the “blue” in your red, white, and blue kabobs. Use fresh and firm ones.
  • Strawberries – Hulled and halved for easy threading. Juicy and sweet, they bring the red!
  • Pound Cake – Store-bought pound cake keeps things simple. Cube it up for the “white” layer. Angel food cake is also okay to use.
  • Bamboo Skewers – Great for stacking and serving. You can use reusable skewers if you prefer.

For The Chocolate Sauce

  • Heavy Whipping Cream – The rich, creamy base for your dreamy chocolate sauce.
  • Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips – Chop them up so they melt quickly and evenly.
  • Pure Vanilla Extract – Adds warm, cozy flavor to the chocolate.
  • Dark Rum – Optional, but adds a fun little kick! Skip it for a kid-friendly version.

How to Make Fruit Kabobs

This fruit kabobs recipe is as easy as it gets. No cooking required! Just grab your ingredients, skewer them, and chill!

  • Prep your fruit by washing it and drying it. Cut up the cake into cubes.
  • Arrange the fruits and cake on a platter and chill until you’re ready to serve.
  • Thread the fruit and pound cake onto skewers, alternating colors for that festive look.

How To Make Ahead

These kabobs are perfect for prepping ahead. You can assemble them a few hours before your party and store them in the fridge, tightly covered. They’ll stay fresh for up to 12 hours.

Please don’t freeze fruit kabobs. Most fresh fruits turn mushy after thawing, and while that’s fine for smoothies, it’s not what you want for a party tray.

Best Fruits for Kabobs

When it comes to fruit kabobs, just about any fruit works. I like to stick with ones that stay fresh longer. Think juicy berries and melons instead of fruits that brown quickly, like bananas or apples (unless you’re serving them immediately). Bonus points for using a mix of colors to match the occasion!

Here are a few great picks for making bright and beautiful fruit skewers:

  • Kiwi slices
  • Strawberries
  • Blueberries
  • Pineapple chunks
  • Cantaloupe or watermelon balls
  • Mango cubes
  • Seedless grapes

What to Serve with Fruit Kabobs

Fruit kabobs are great on their own, but adding a dip makes them even better, especially if you’re serving them as dessert!

  • Chocolate Dipping Sauce – My homemade version is rich, silky, and tasty.
  • Strawberry Sauce – Add a drizzle over the kabobs – I think you’ll love it.
  • Vanilla or Banana Pudding – Made from a box or from scratch.
  • Fruit Yogurt – Easy, creamy, and kid-friendly.
  • Cream Cheese Fruit Dip – Creamy and sweet!

Instructions

  • Prep. Prepare your fruit by washing and drying the berries. Then cut up the pound cake into cubes.
  • Make the kabobs. Thread the fruit and pound cake onto skewers, alternating colors for that festive look. Set aside.
  • Make the chocolate sauce. Put the cream in a small saucepan and cook over low heat. When the cream begins to form bubbles around the edges, remove from the heat and whisk in the chopped chocolate. Continue whisking until the mixture is melted and smooth. Whisk in vanilla and rum; remove from the heat and set aside. Sauce will thicken as it stands.
  • Serve. Arrange the fruit skewers on a platter and serve the chocolate sauce in a bowl.

Notes

  • How much fruit and cake you will need depends on how many skewers you want to make. Keep in mind, the dipping sauce will serve about 8 people.
