Easy Pork Chop Recipe

Transform your dinner routine with this easy, one-skillet Caprese Pork Chops recipe! In just 30 minutes, create tender pork chops topped with mozzarella, juicy tomatoes, and fresh basil. Ideal for a quick weeknight meal or a special occasion, it’s not only delicious but also low-carb and keto-friendly. Enjoy juicy, flavorsome pork chops like never before!

There’s nothing quite like the taste of bone-in pork chops seared to perfection and marinated in a sweet balsamic mix. Add a classic Caprese trio – tomatoes, mozzarella, and basil – and you’ve got one irresistible meal. I’ve been on a Caprese kick recently, thanks to an abundance of homegrown tomatoes gifted by my Mom. Their vibrant flavor is just begging to be paired with creamy mozzarella and a touch of balsamic. Initially, these tomatoes inspired dishes like Caprese Skillet Chicken and Caprese Macaroni and Cheese. But with the latest batch, I turned to these mouthwatering pork chops and an upcoming Caprese Chicken Nachos recipe.

How To Bake Caprese Pork Chops

These bone-in center-cut pork chops marinate in a delicious garlicky balsamic marinade, then are seared and baked with melty cheese until tender and juicy.

  1. Starting with the marinade, you’ll need balsamic vinegar, olive oil, dried basil, and garlic. If time permits, let the pork chops soak in the marinade for at least 15 minutes before adding them to the skillet.
  2. Add the pork chops to the skillet and cook on both sides for about 4 minutes per side or until browned.
  3. Bake: Top the chops with slices of fresh mozzarella cheese and pop the skillet in the oven for 10 minutes or until cheese is melted.

How To Grill Caprese Pork Chops

  • Preheat the grill to medium-high heat. Remove the pork chops from the marinade and place on the preheated grill and cook for 4 minutes; flip and cook for 3 more minutes. Place mozzarella cheese on top, close the grill, and cook until cheese is melted and meat is cooked through. Pork is done when its internal temperature reaches 145˚F.

Tips and Variations

  • Marinate longer: Although 15 minutes is sufficient, allowing the pork chops to marinate for longer (up to 4 hours) will help the flavors penetrate deeper into the meat.
  • Perfect sear: To achieve a beautiful golden-brown sear on your pork chops, ensure your skillet is hot before adding the chops. Don’t overcrowd the pan, as this could cause the chops to steam instead.
  • Choosing the right skillet: A cast iron skillet is perfect for this recipe as it retains heat well and can be transferred from the stovetop to the oven. If you don’t have one, make sure to use an oven-safe skillet.
  • Cooking times: Cooking times may vary depending on the thickness of your pork chops. Use a meat thermometer to check doneness – the internal temperature should read 145°F (63°C).
  • Resting the meat: Allow the cooked pork chops to rest for a few minutes before serving. This helps the juices redistribute, leading to juicier chops.
  • Fresh toppings: Use the freshest mozzarella, tomatoes, and basil for best flavor. You can also try experimenting with different types of tomatoes for a fun twist.
  • Cheese: If you can’t find fresh mozzarella, you could use provolone or fontina cheese, which also melt well and have a mild flavor.
  • Spices: Feel free to add some extra heat with a pinch of red pepper flakes or some smoked paprika for a smoky twist.

I really enjoy looking at your recipes and have saved several, but may I add a positive suggestion without any criticism, and that is to maybe pull back on the camera somewhat when taking shots of the finished recipe as I think that one would be able to see that finished product much clearer.

I plan to keep saving your delicious recipes, thank you and good luck with your Website : )

What do you serve with it? Something that is easy and quick?

  3. Melanie Tanczos says:

Delicious! Very juicy! I am not a cook so I follow recipes exactly. It turned out great and my food critic husband loved it! โค๏ธ

  4. Ellen says:

This looks delicious, although it doesn’t seem as though anyone’s actually made it. I hate tomatoes, and we don’t eat pork; do you think it would be good made with chicken and zucchini? Oh, and American cheese.

      1. Ellen says:

Wow! I love it! I tried it tonight and yes, I used mozzarella cheese.
        Thank you!

That would make it a completely different dish. You changed all the ingredients.
