This homemade granola recipe is sweet, crunchy, and you can make a huge batch with pantry staples for a fraction of what you’d spend on store-bought. It’s made with rolled oats, nuts, and coconut, and sweetened with maple syrup and brown sugar.

Why You Should Make This Homemade Granola Recipe ASAP
- Sweet crunch. Crispy baked oats, nuts, and coconut are mixed with maple syrup and brown sugar for sweetness without loads of added sugar or oils.
- It’s quick. Prep your granola mixture in minutes. The oven does most of the work, and the finished granola keeps in the pantry for weeks.
- Make it your way. Customize this granola recipe with dried fruits, nuts, and flavors.
- Better than store-bought. Even my favorite granola brand doesn’t hold a candle to the flavor and freshness of this homemade recipe.
Gather These Ingredients

- Coconut Oil – Melted to a liquid. Another cooking oil, like canola or vegetable oil, will also work.
- Maple Syrup – Agave or honey can be used instead.
- Brown Sugar – White granulated sugar is fine to use.
- Vanilla and Salt – I add a small amount of vanilla extract or vanilla paste.
- Rolled Oats – Also called old-fashioned oats, which are best for granola.
- Coconut – This can be coconut flakes or chips.
- Mixed Nuts – A mix of chopped walnuts, almonds, and pecans. Or, use a blend of my spiced nuts recipe with cashews, peanuts, pistachios, etc. For a nut-free granola, leave out the nuts or replace them with pepitas.
- Blueberries – Dried blueberries add a sweet, chewy texture. Dried cranberries, raisins, currants, and other dried fruit are okay to use.

Granola Variations
- Tropical. Stir in dried pineapple, papaya chunks, or banana chips.
- Chocolate. To make chocolate granola, stir in chocolate chips after the granola has cooled. You could also add 1-2 tablespoons of cocoa powder to the recipe.
- Seeds. Add chia seeds, flax seeds, hemp seeds, sunflower seeds, or pepitas.
- Freeze-dried fruit. Swap dried blueberries with freeze-dried strawberries or raspberries.
- Spice. Add a few pinches of cinnamon, cardamom, or pumpkin pie spice.

What to Serve With Homemade Granola
I like to enjoy this blueberry granola like cereal, in a big bowl with milk or Greek yogurt and fresh berries, and sometimes I add honey roasted almonds,. It’s a great addition to an acai bowl or protein oatmeal, too! Homemade granola is also a tasty topping for ice cream and frozen yogurt.

How to Make Granola, Step-By-Step
Baking low and slow is the secret to crunchy homemade granola. I’ve tested many ways to achieve that perfect, classic granola crunch. The oven is by far the best!

- Make the base. In a large bowl, mix the coconut oil, maple syrup, brown sugar, vanilla, and salt.
- Add the dry ingredients. Then, fold in the oats, coconut flakes, nuts, and blueberries.

- Fill the pan. Spread the granola mixture out onto a parchment-lined baking sheet. Press it flat with a spatula.
- Bake. Bake at 300ºF for 10 minutes. Then, stir the granola and press it down again. Bake for 10 more minutes, stir, press down, and return it to the oven for 5-7 minutes. If the granola looks a little soft when it comes out of the oven, don’t worry. It hardens as it cools down.
- Enjoy! Once cooled, your homemade granola is ready to serve or store.

How to Store
- Keep it airtight. Store this homemade granola in an airtight jar or container. Keep it at room temperature in a dry location out of direct sunlight, like the pantry. It’ll last for several weeks. Avoid refrigerating, as it makes the granola soggy.
