Garlicky Steamed Broccoli – Delicious and healthy side dish of steamed broccoli rolled in buttery panko crumbs, garlic and lemon.
Well Hello! How’s it going, friends? Happy Wednesday!
Guess what?! We are snowed-in and freezing! Not surprising since this is Indiana, the other Alaskan state…
In recent years, our winters are just crazy-cold. At this moment, when you factor in the wind chill, it is about -30 degrees Fahrenheit. Brrrr!!
Also? I’d like to take a minute and wish my dear fellow Orthodox Christians a very Merry Christmas!! Christ is Born!
I realize that for the rest of you he’s already two weeks old and crawling, but I’m the one who’s going to play stuff-my-face at Mom’s house with Chocolate Baklava today and not YOU! Na na na na na na. 😉
Along with the Baklava, I’m also bringing this side of Garlicky Steamed Broccoli to balance it all out. Fingers crossed, I will not freeze solid while trying to reach Mama’s house.
I am always surprised at myself and the constant cravings I have for green veggies. Brussels sprouts and broccoli are forever at the top of my list.
I come up with a million ways to ensure I get a proper greens-fix. Most of the time that means healthy vegetables swimming in lotsa cheese, but not this time! In fact, I’ve been chillin’ with this recipe, or a variation of it, since that one time when I made Crumb Coated Broccoli for the French Fridays Club.
It was love at first bite and I never got tired of it.
Now, enough rambling. I need to get my snowsuit on and go to Church and YOU need to get to the recipe so that you can go to your kitchen and make this beautiful side dish for the Fam. It will take you all of 20 to 25 minutes TOPS.
By the way, we’re steaming broccoli without a steamer. YAY!!
I don’t even own a steamer…
So that’s broccoli meets garlic and crumbs with a hint of lemon. Dreamy.
ENJOY!

hi
better to cook brochli without water .i mean steam it while cooking rice for dinner .and then marinade it with this best recipie i have ever seen.
thanks katerina
This was good, except for the breadcrumbs – they’re pretty soggy, and I think I’ll try this recipe again, omitting them. Otherwise, I used about half as much butter and no almonds, but the taste was good!
This looks delicious! Thanks for sharing!
Gorgeous photos and this broccoli is going on my must-try soon list!
Ben’s favorite way to eat any vegetable is steamed – my favorite way to eat any vegetable is with garlic. This is totally a win win for both of us! How gorgeous!
Broccoli has never looked better, I love the garlic and bread crumbs!
I LOVE garlic so very much. When I eat it (according to my husband) I smell like it for days. Who cares. It’s totally worth it for delicious garlic 🙂
Just chew fresh parsley. It takes away the lingering smell of garlic – just a stalk and leaves will do the trick!
Hi Anne! That’s my mom’s advice, always, and it does work! 🙂
Katerina, gorgeousness. We’ve been eating bunch of veggies recently. I usually roast never steam. I take it back one veggie I used to steam is broccoli. Garlic-y is always fantastic.
Holy crap – windchill making it feel like -30 degrees?! And I thought -6 was cold. I Damn near froze my thumb off this morning. Anyway, Merry Christmas! And merry garlicky steamed broccoli. Thats my go to green, by the way.
The one veggie that everybody in my house loves equally is broccoli – this is SO happening. I love the addition of bread crumbs…has my mouth watering.
I love steamed broccoli and I’m always looking for fun variations. This looks great!
I adore broccoli with all of my heart. We’re guilty of just tossing a steamer bag in the microwave for quick eating. But I absolutely must make this version. It looks so bright and fresh. Way better than my limp steamer bag!
What are these steamer bags everyone speaks of?! I must find it! 🙂 Thank you, Kim!!
Oooh. I didn’t know that Orthodox Christians have a different date for Christmas! My mind is kind of blown.
And YES to lots of garlic on broccoli! I don’t like veggies so more garlic is always a good thing. 🙂
What a beautiful broccoli dish. I might make this for dinner tomorrow; this dish is just too pretty to pass up. It would be great to pack this for lunch at the office too, I think.
I love broccoli and this sounds amazingly good!
This looks so good! I love how you jazzed it up with the bread crumbs.
Upstate NY feels your pain today with these nasty wind chills!! I need some of this broccoli! Merry Christmas! 🙂
This broccoli and baklava is all I need! Please and thank you 🙂 Merry Christmas!
This sounds so amazing! We all LOVE broccoli here – can’t wait to try this!
I need to eat more broccoli….you make it look so good
I’m making this for dinner tonight! Love the addition of the garlic and bread crumbs – and we have all of the ingredients in our fridge. Can’t wait!
Healthy but SO flavor packed. I could definitely get on board with a big bowl of this 🙂
This would be my main dish, seriously looks incredible. And I won’t mention that it’s been 80 degrees here lately. Oh wait. Sorry. Hope you’re staying warm!
Oh man, baklava sounds so good right now. My kids would love this broccoli! I hope I have all the ingredients!
I don’t think I’d ever hear ‘snowsuit” and “church” in one sentence but you pulled it off! Merry Christmas, my dear! We celebrated last night. 🙂 I’ve a got a whole Slavic feast of recipes on my blog today and if one cooks it all, stretchy pants will be needed. Enjoy snow! Gorgeous broccoli recipe!
Merry Christmas, Julia!!! I’m at my Mom’s for Christmas lunch and I can’t even describe how good everything looks! You can imagine, I’m sure!! 😀 My yoga pants are sitting in my bag and I’m looking forward to slipping them on real soon! haha 🙂
What a wonderful way to change up broccoli! I often just end up steaming broccoli for dinner, but I love the idea of kicking up the flavor with garlic.
This broccoli looks delicious! Hope you made it there without freezing!
Merry Christmas! We have Divine Liturgy this morning and a luncheon later. There is also a custom here where I live to shoot guns on Main Street.
Merry Christmas!! Shooting guns on Christmas? Now that’s *different*! 😀 I love traditions!
I do too. The gun shooting thing must be a Serbian thing. I live in a rural area. This area was settled mostly by Serbs, Germans, and Italians.
