How To Make Honey Garlic Steak Bites

Making steak bites is a breeze, and the key trick here is using a hot skillet. This way, you avoid overcooking the steak. If your skillet is sizzling enough, the steak bites only need around 4 to 5 minutes to cook perfectly.

  1. Prep the Steak: Cube the steak and season it with paprika, salt, and pepper.
  2. Make the Sauce: In a bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, water, garlic, honey, sesame seed oil, rice vinegar, oregano, and cornstarch.

Honey Garlic Steak Bites

Tender, delicious, and juicy Honey Garlic Steak Bites are a quick dinner or game day fare, and they're done in 15 minutes.

Ingredients 

  • pounds top sirloin steak,, cubed
  • 1 teaspoon sweet or smoked paprika
  • salt and freshly ground black pepper,, to taste
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil,, divided
  • 3 tablespoons low sodium soy sauce
  • ¼ cup water,, or beef broth
  • 4 cloves garlic,, minced
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seed oil,, or extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar,, or white vinegar
  • ½ teaspoon dried oregano,, or your favorite dried herbs
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • sesame seeds,, for garnish
  • sliced green onions,, for garnish

Instructions 

  • Pat dry the steak with paper towels, cut it into 1-inch cubes, and season it with paprika, salt, and pepper; set aside.
  • In a mixing bowl, combine the soy sauce, water (or broth), garlic, honey, sesame seed oil, rice vinegar, oregano, and cornstarch; whisk until thoroughly combined. Set aside.
  • Heat 1 tablespoon vegetable oil in a cast iron skillet set over medium-high heat until sizzling hot.
  • Add 1/2 of the steak cubes to the hot oil and cook for 2 minutes per side or until browned and done. Remove the steak bites from the skillet and repeat with the rest of the steak, adding extra oil as needed.
  • Remove all steak bites from the skillet and set aside.
  • Give the previously prepared honey garlic sauce a good stir with a whisk and pour ⅓ of the sauce into the hot skillet; scrape up the browned pieces from the bottom of the pan.
  • Add the steak bites back to the skillet and pour the rest of the sauce over the steak; cook for 1 to 2 more minutes or until the sauce starts to thicken.
  • Remove from heat, transfer the steak bites to a plate, and drizzle with the pan sauce.
  • Garnish with sesame seeds and sliced green onions, and serve.

    The quickness of the recipe was a great selling point, and the picture was super enticing. However, the outcome was disappointing. I don’t know if any of my ingredients were weaker in taste than what the author was using, but it missed the mark widely. Not very savory and we expected much more. Tossed the leftovers.

    Tried this tonight for a more creative steak recipe and itโ€™s a winner! I think I will throw in some onions, peppers and mushrooms next time! Served with white rice, I think Iโ€™ll try some noodles next time.

    Can I prepare the sauce the night before? Also, the meat. Not cook it but just season and container for the next day.

      Yes, you can prepare the sauce the night before & put it in the fridge. Dry your meat well & then season with salt, pepper & paprika (although I would be inclined to do this prior to cooking. You can have the meat cut up, covered & put in fridge ready. Mix all the sauce ingredients & cover & put in fridge. Just stir the sauce again before you put it in the skillet. Enjoy!

    Don’t use an entire tablespoon of sesame seed oil or it’ll taste like terrible Chinese takeout. Next time I might omit it entirely and just use hoisin sauce. Also, don’t use salt at all. The soy sauce has plenty, so it’ll be overpowering.

    Great and easy recipe.

    I would recommend not using salt at all. The sauce is flavourful enough and the salt could potentially overpower it.

    Also more garlic or even garlic powder if you really want the garlic flavour to be more prominent.

    This sounds amazing! A must try indeed! The only thang I would do is pick out my steak and have my deli cut it up for me just because my wrist have a hard time doing this task anymore..
