This creamy chocolate mousse recipe is rich, silky, and packed with bold chocolate flavor. It’s light enough to feel indulgent without being heavy, and it comes together in minutes with just five simple ingredients.

Chocolate mousse is basically dessert heaven, and this one just happens to be low-carb and keto-friendly. It’s rich and silky, and it takes just 5 ingredients and 5 minutes to put together. And there’s no baking involved.
My chocolate fudge cake and this mousse are my go-to when I’m craving something chocolatey but trying to remember my waistline, too. It’s so easy and seriously hits the spot every single time. I’ve made it for friends, for family… and for myself, straight from the bowl.
Why You’ll Love This Chocolate Mousse Recipe
- Silky, Spoonable Bliss – My recipe for mousse is all about that rich, creamy texture that melts in your mouth and makes every bite feel like a little luxury.
- Quick & Easy Prep – With just a few ingredients, it’s the perfect last-minute dessert that doesn’t skimp on flavor.
- Make-Ahead Magic – Make the chocolate mousse in advance and let it chill. It’s ideal for dinner parties or when you want a ready-to-go treat waiting in the fridge.
- Customizable Toppings – Dress it up with whipped cream, fresh berries, or a sprinkle of sea salt. It’s a great base for all your favorite add-ons.
Recipe Ingredients
- Heavy Whipping Cream: This is the base that makes the mousse rich, creamy, and fluffy — don’t swap it with anything lighter!
- Pure Vanilla Extract: Just a splash to balance the chocolate.
- Cocoa Powder: Use dark or Dutch-processed cocoa powder for that deep chocolate flavor.
- Powdered Sweetener: I use a powdered sugar substitute to keep this low-carb, but feel free to use regular powdered sugar. Adjust the amount of sweetener you add to suit your taste.
- Pinch of Salt: A little goes a long way to bring out all the flavors.
- Whipped Cream (optional): For topping, because why not add a cloud of extra creaminess?
- Chocolate Shavings: A sprinkle of shaved chocolate makes it feel extra fancy.
- Raspberries (optional): Adds a pop of color and a tart contrast that pairs perfectly with rich mousse.
How to Make This Chocolate Mousse Recipe
Let’s talk chocolate desserts. This one comes together fast with zero drama, with just a few ingredients, a whisk, and a little trust in the process. Here’s how to make it happen.
- Whip the cream and vanilla: In the bowl of your electric mixer, combine the heavy whipping cream and vanilla extract. Whip with the whisk attachment on medium speed until thick and creamy, but not stiff.
- Add the cocoa, sweetener, and salt: Sprinkle in the cocoa powder, powdered sweetener, and a pinch of salt. Turn the mixer to high and whip until stiff peaks form.
- Assemble and serve: Spoon the mousse into small bowls and top with whipped cream, chocolate shavings, and raspberries if you’d like. Serve and enjoy!
Recipe Tips & Variations
- Taste as You Go: After mixing in the cocoa and sweetener, give it a quick taste. Everyone’s sweet tooth is different, so feel free to adjust the sweetness before serving.
- Don’t Overwhip the Cream: Stop mixing when your cream and vanilla just start to thicken. You want soft peaks here — too much whipping before adding cocoa can mess with the texture.
- Watch for Stiff Peaks: After adding the cocoa, sweetener, and salt, mix until stiff peaks form. If you lift the beaters and the mousse holds its shape, you’re good to go.
- Use Cold Cream: Cold heavy cream whips up faster and holds its structure better.
- Chill Before Serving (Optional): You can serve it right away, but letting it chill for 30 minutes to an hour helps the mousse set even more and deepens the flavor.
- Top It Up: Add whipped cream, berries, coconut flakes, nuts, or a sprinkle of dark chocolate shavings to make it extra special. You can also keep it plain and let the mousse speak for itself.
Proper Storage
Leftover mousse should be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator. It will stay good for up to 5 days. You can also chill your mousse in the fridge for an hour or two before you add your toppings if you prefer a colder and firmer mousse.

Easy, excellent recipe that is an awesome keto dessert. Thanks!
My mousse was really thick not light, fluffy or creamy.
I had to add extra thick cream,300ml in total, but it was still stiff.
It tastes okay though.
Hi!
Oh no! I hope it was still enjoyable. But, I do know why this happened. ๐ UK cream and US cream are a bit different. Yours is thicker than ours and it contains more butterfat. Because UK cream is so rich, it’s very easy to get it too thick while whipping it up.
What is a serving size? How many servings are in this recipe?
Hi!
There’s 4 servings, so a serving size is a 1/4 of the entire recipe; that serving size may yield somewhere between 1/3-cup and 1/2-cup. I don’t have a commercial type kitchen with professional scales therefore I can’t say exactly how much you will get, but it should be near those numbers. I hope this helps.
This is exactly what I need for dessert right now! Sounds mouthwatering!
I hope you enjoy it! Thank YOU! ๐

Can you make ahead and refrigerate??*
Hi! ๐
Yes, absolutely. Also, if you want to keep it in the fridge for longer than a day, I suggest to put it in a container and cover it just so it doesn’t absorb all the other smells. But, otherwise, you can keep it in there for up to 5 days.
Yay, for a healthier, decadent dessert! This is incredibly creamy & feels so light , it doesn’t leave you feeling like you shouldn’t have had dessert ๐
I am very glad you enjoyed it! Thank YOU! ๐
