    How to Make Cauliflower Casserole

You don’t need anything fancy to make this easy broccoli and cauliflower casserole. It is a perfect combination of ingredients and good old comfort food. You can also play around with the ingredients to make it your own!

    Ingredients You’ll Need

    • Broccoli Florets & Cauliflower Florets – Use about 1.5 to 2 pounds of florets. These will be pre-cooked for a few minutes before we add them to the casserole dish.
    • Vegetable Oil – For cooking the aromatics and sausage.
    • Onion & Garlic – I suggest using fresh onions and garlic here – they add texture, flavor, and a delicious bite.
    • Polish Sausage or Andouille Sausage – Or any other pre-cooked sausage.
    • Cream Cheese – Try your best to use room-temperature cream cheese because it will mix better with the rest of the ingredients.
    • Mayonnaise – Plain yogurt or sour cream also work great as substitutions.
    • Shredded Cheeses – Use your favorite blend.

    Directions

Ideal for weeknight dinners or casual get-togethers, this casserole is ready to be the star of your dinner table. It’s a simple sausage bake packed with robust flavors, fresh veggies, and a creamy cheese blend.

    1. Preheat the oven to 400˚F and grease a 9×13 baking dish with butter or cooking spray; set aside.
    2. Add broccoli and cauliflower florets to boiling water and cook for 3 minutes; drain and set aside.
    3. Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet, stir in the onions, and cook for 2 minutes. Stir in the garlic and smoked sausage, and cook until browned on all sides.
    4. Transfer broccoli, cauliflower, and sausage mixture to the baking dish.
    5. Combine the cream cheese, mayo, shredded cheese, dijon mustard, salt, and pepper in a mixing bowl; add it to the broccoli mixture and stir until combined.
    6. Sprinkle remaining shredded cheese over the top and bake for 12 to 15 minutes or until golden brown.

    Recipe Tips

    • Grease the baking dish: Make sure you don’t forget to grease your baking dish. It will make your life so much easier! Just a dash of cooking spray will do the trick. If you don’t grease the pan, the bottom of your casserole might stick to it.
    • Sausage options: While you can use any pre-cooked sausage, consider using one with a strong flavor profile, such as Polish or andouille sausage, to enhance the overall taste of the casserole.
    • Cooking the vegetables: Make sure to pre-cook your broccoli and cauliflower just enough so they’re tender but still have a bit of crunch.
    • Use different veggies: This casserole can easily be adapted to suit your tastes. Feel like switching up the veggies or cheese? Go for it! The recipe is flexible.

    2. Heather Drury says:

Love this recipe. Does it make 8 servings? Iโ€™m assuming so but thought Iโ€™d ask

      1. Katerina says:

        Hi!
        Yes, it’s 8 servings.

    3. Becki says:

The base with the cream cheese, mayo, mustard, and S&P is good but definitely makes more cream than needed for the measurements of what you’re mixing into it. I used two 12-ounce bags of California Medley steamable vegetables (broccoli, cauliflower, and carrots) and one kielbasa link and – though it was good – it needed more substantiality to it. Next time, I am going to add a cup or so of precooked jasmine rice to the whole thing so that it’s a full dinner in one dish.

Oh, and I didn’t even soften the cream cheese. I put the pan-fried kielbabsa and garlic into a large bowl, put all the cream mixture ingredients and all the shredded cheese on top of that, dumped the still-hot steamable veggies on that, and let it sit for about 5 to 7 minutes so the heat softened everything. Then, I mixed it slowly with a rubber spatula, scooped it into the sprayed 9×13 dish, and baked it for 20 minutes.

    4. Sharon Tripp says:

Very good. Definitely will make it again.

    5. Brenda says:

Will definitely make this again! Did not have enough smoked kielbasa, so also browned/cooked 2 links of fresh and added to what I had. Delicious! Picky husband went for seconds! ๐Ÿ˜‹

    6. Mindy T. says:

This is amazing! I added carrots and green beans, so more variety of veggies. Otherwise, made the recipe as is and I will definately make it again!

      1. Katerina Petrovska says:

That’s great! I’m very glad you enjoyed it! Thank YOU! ๐Ÿ™‚

    7. Pat says:

Can you use frozen broccoli and cauliflower in this recipe? Thank you๐Ÿ˜Š

      1. Brenda says:

I boiled frozen until tender, then added as called for in recipe. Great results!

    8. Chris says:

      Can this be frozen?

      1. Katerina says:

Technically, yes, you could, but my advice is to avoid freezing dairy-heavy casseroles because ingredients such as heavy cream or cream cheese will separate when frozen, which can result in a grainy texture when defrosted.

    9. Connie Tillman says:

I tried this recioe and found it really tasty. I didn’t need the sausage but it did add another dimension to the dish. Next time I’ll add a little more cream cheese. Great!

    10. Ashlee says:

Hi, do you believe this could be made in the crockpot?
