Copycat Catalina Salad Dressing

Fun fact: My 5-year-old daughter calls me Catalina… my name is Katerina. 😆

Full of flavor, light, and simple to make, this copycat Catalina salad dressing recipe will be one that you’ll go back to again and again. It takes less than 5 minutes to make, and you know exactly what you put in it.

In fact, I have stopped buying salad dressings and continue making almost all my salad dressings in my kitchen. In fact, check out these eight homemade salad dressings that I make on repeat.

One of my recent go-to meals is a Catalina chicken and broccoli recipe we can’t get enough of. I came up with it on a whim because I was out of Italian Salad Dressing to make my Italian Chicken and Vegetables in Foil.

Without any time to spare and hop on to Target, I prepared it with what I had, and that was my homemade version of Catalina dressing.

Ingredients for Homemade Catalina Dressing

  • Vegetable Oil – Canola oil is also okay to use, as is olive oil.
  • Red Wine Vinegar – For a true copycat, stick with red wine vinegar, but you can also try it with white wine vinegar.
  • Worcestershire Sauce – Adds depth and an umami flavor with a slight tanginess, which complements the sweetness of the dressing.
  • Ketchup – Helps to create a rich texture and contributes to the vibrant red color of the dressing.
  • Sugar – Balances out the tanginess and acidity from the ketchup and Worcestershire sauce.
  • Paprika – Contributes a mild, smoky flavor.
  • Onion Powder – It provides a mild onion flavor that boosts the overall taste.
  • Salt and Black Pepper – Simple seasoning that enhances all the flavors of the Catalina dressing.

How To Make Catalina Dressing

  1. Combine vegetable oil, vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, and ketchup in a jar with a lid or a bottle with a cap; seal the jar with the lid and shake until well combined.
  2. Add sugar, paprika, onion powder, salt and pepper; close it again and shake it until everything is thoroughly combined.
  3. Refrigerate until needed. Keeps good for 7 to 10 days in the fridge.

See how simple, easy, and quick that was?! A lot quicker than making a trip to the store to buy one, that’s for sure. Did I mention that it’s also super delicious? We love it!

Homemade Catalina Salad Dressing

Ingredients 

  • ¼ cup canola oil or vegetable oil
  • ¼ cup red wine vinegar
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons ketchup
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire Sauce
  • ½ teaspoon paprika
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder, (you can also use dried minced onions)
  • salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions

    How much salt and pepper would you recommend to start with?

      Hi!
      Always start with a small amount, then taste, and add more if needed. So, try 1/8 teaspoon to start with, then adjust to your taste.

    This recipe says there are 16 servings and the Nutritional Information says that a serving is 2 tablespoons, for 36 calories. Based on the ingredients, this is not possible. The ingredients don’t even add up to 1 full cup, which would be 16 tablespoons. If there are 16 2-tablespoon servings in this recipe, that’s 32 tablespoons. Do the math! So what exactly is the nutritional value and serving size of this recipe?
