FLAKY GARLIC BUTTER BAKED TILAPIA

There are so many great recipes for baked fish out there, but I really love this one because, it doesn’t require any mayonnaise, breadcrumbs, parmesan, or other toppings. All you need is lemon, garlic, and butter. Super simple, low carb, gluten free, Keto-friendly, AND flavorFUL. Even picky eaters love this tasty fish fillet recipe.

BUT, if you’re looking for a rich and creamy fish recipe, you have to try my Skillet Tilapia with Creamy Lemon Sauce. 😋

IS FRESH OR FROZEN TILAPIA BEST?

In general, if you have access to fish that has been freshly caught, cleaned, and put up for sale within about 48 hours, then that’s your absolute best bet for quality. Other than that, the likelihood is that any fish you buy has been frozen at some point in order to keep it fresh for transport.

Frozen fish is also processed and frozen quickly after the catch. So you can feel confident that the fish in the freezer case is, in most cases, just as good as the fish at the counter, and maybe even better!

IS TILAPIA HEALTHY?

While wild-caught fish is generally thought to be the healthiest, many food experts say that properly farmed fish is very healthy, and that includes tilapia! Tilapia is high in Omega-3 fatty acids, and is a good source of protein.

However, some sources of tilapia are better than others, so be sure to check out the source’s reputation, standards, and the kind of feed they use for their fish.

RECIPE INGREDIENTS

HOW LONG TO BAKE TILAPIA

If you haven’t baked tilapia before you may be wondering how to do it properly. Here are a few quick tips for the best baked tilapia:

  • Like most fish fillets, tilapia cooks up pretty quickly! You’ll want to check on it as soon as it’s been in the oven for 10 minutes, or even sooner if your oven runs hot.
  • The fillets are done when they flake easily with a fork (but aren’t dry).
  • If you’re using a meat thermometer, insert it sideways into the thickest part of the fillet. The temperature should be 145°F.

HOW TO STORE AND REHEAT LEFTOVERS

  • To refrigerate, store cooled leftover fillets in an airtight container. Keep in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
  • To freeze, place leftover fillets in a single layer on a baking sheet or platter. Freeze until frozen solid. Then transfer the frozen fillets into freezer bags and push out as much air as possible before sealing. The fillets will keep in the freezer for up to 3 weeks.
  • To reheat, first thaw the fish (if frozen). Then place the fillets at room temperature while the oven preheats to 350°F. Arrange the fillets in a baking dish and cover with foil. Bake for 8-10 minutes, or until heated through. The fish’s texture may be less moist after storing and reheating.

This was a big hit with all of us, even our 4 year old! We served it with Toasted Orzo with Parmesan and Sundried Tomatoes from The Mediterranean Dish’s website.

  2. Maria says:

I love to cook and I have cooked fish in different ways, this recipe is excellent because the butter, garlic, lemon zest and lemon juice when is mixed together, it makes like a paste that stays on top of the fish until the end. The taste stays with in and the texture too. I bake it as the recipe said and to toast the garlic, I broil it for a few minutes. I give 5 stars to this dish.

This is a go to for me..so quick and easy and yummy!! Itโ€™s a keeper as we say ๐Ÿ˜‹

  4. Kayla says:

Delicious! My first time cooking fish and it came out great! So quick and easy!! The fish was still a tad frozen when I put it in the oven so I cooked it for longer.

  5. Jessie says:

Great recipe! I made this with roasted mini red potatoes that have a similar seasoning blend. I put the potatoes in the oven first on the middle rack at 425ยฐ for 45 mins and then the tilapia in a separate pan on the top rack for the final 8-10 mins of potato cook time and both turned out beautifully! It all came together in exactly 1 hour for a quick yet flavorful dinner. Will be saving this for the future!

I followed the recipe exactly as it was written. I am so glad I picked this one to use. I am a vegetarian so it always makes me nervous when I am cooking fish or meat for other people since I am not sure what I am doing. I made this for my 20 year old Granddaughter and she doesn’t hesitate to tell me exactly what she thinks. Well, she is raving about how good this fish tastes!
This recipe gets five stars from me. It was easy to follow, had simple ingredients, and best of all, was delicious, according to my girl!! Bravo for a great recipe. Thank you!

About to try this recipe with freshly caught crappie! Super excited to see how it turns out.

Soo this was a beautiful recipe. However I did make a touch few adjustments, not on purpose. I warmed my butter on the stove and just put all of the ingredients together in the melted butter. The garlic first to get that warm buttery garlic aroma goin, then all the rest. I accidentally read the directions wrong because I did this I just added a touch of my home made season salt onto the fish then the sauce over all of the fish, I did not use all of it. Baked per your directions. It was amazing. Sorry for messing up the recipe but everyone’s plates were empty. And the aroma thru the house, superb. This is a win in my book. Thank you for this recipe.
