Ana 4

Two years ago today I became a Mother – truly, the best gift EVER. It was the day that I realized what love really was, what caring really meant, and what fear felt like.

This morning I woke up bright and early to make a quick cake for breakfast. I wanted to surprise the birthday girl with something that had sugar, chocolate, and more sugar on top.

I was so excited to give it to her, but I was turned down… WHAT?!?

She walked away from the table, walked up to the pantry, pointed up and said, “Cookie!”. She chose the Oreos over my quick, sugary, chocolatey mug cake.

I told her she could have an Oreo only if she would let me take a picture of her. She agreed. (Normally she runs far and away as soon as I pick up my camera… I run after her and snap with it until I get a decent picture).

Birthday Cake

That’s the money shot.

I really hope she likes the cake that she will have at her birthday party on Sunday. I probably should have ordered an OREO cake, instead. :/

Ana, Happy 2nd Birthday! You are my love, my кукла, my злато, my душа, my срце, my everything. (translation: doll, gold, soul, heart)

    1. Hi Karen! I’m sorry the mug cake didn’t quite turn out for you, but all microwaves are different and maybe the baking-time is too long for your unit. I have made this cake plenty of times and I can assure you that it works. I truly am sorry, though, that you didn’t enjoy the cake. Thank you for chiming in.

this is really nice i made this

    super easy !!

    thanks for sharing

if we can use butter as an alternative of olive oil , it’s also good

  2. Hey! I have also tried making these with my own recipe and they get a bit dry since we bake them in the microwave. So I would suggest to eat with some cream or even ice cream if you have! Improves the taste very successfully!
Try it out! Nice blog, feel free to visit mine if you like

  3. I’m a bit late, but: Happy birthday to your daughter!!! She’s one wonderful little treasure. I wish you and her many many happy moments, both with and without oreo cookies 😉

  4. Happy Birthday to your little beauty! I love that she picked the oreo cookie. I think thats hilarious. Me, I wouldn’t (couldn’t) turn down these adorable little cakes!

  5. Happy birthday to your little babe! Kids are so funny, I think boys are the same way. They want oreo cookies in the face of delicious homemade desserts! Your cakes and photos look beautiful.

  6. Ohhhhhh! Happy be-lated birthday to your precious little princess. I know how you feel. My life only really blossomed after I had my children. She is a gorgeous little angel. Hope she had a wonderful time on her birthday. I love the chocolate mug cake. YUM! : )

I guess my microwave must be more powerful than yours…after 2 minutes at high, the cake had exploded all over the mug, down onto the base of the microwave and had gotten a bit overcooked. Next time, I’ll reduce the power and probably mix everything together first, then pour into two mugs instead of one.

Otherwise, nice, quick recipe to satisfy a craving..thanks for sharing!

  8. We make something very similar in the low-carb world – called the 3 minute chocolate cake – but with different ingredients.

Such cute story and love the lashes on your little girl, Ana. She is going to love those one day! I think Oreo Cake probably would have made sense. lol

Congrats on Top 9, Kate. 🙂

  9. What an adorable little girl, and you were very lucky to get the “money shot”.
As she gets older her tastes will change, and she will keep you guessing. Have a wonderful birthday party!!!

  10. First let me say that I LOVE this post! Your daughter is gorgeous and what a great mother you are! Secondly – the cake is AWESOME! I’ve got to make it! I don’t use my oven in the summer, so this is perfect. Thanks for sharing.

  11. Awww… happy birthday to Ana! Oh yes, that is a great shot of Ana! You know I have the exact same problem with taking kids pictures… my son will put a forced smile if I say cheese, and my daughter just look somewhere but camera. There is no way I can take a single shot of BOTH looking at the camera. Well, I hope you enjoy the birthday party this weekend. Your mug cake is so cute and delicious. If I was near you, I would drive to your house to pick up Ana’s leftover. 😉 Enjoy the special weekend with your special princess!

What a cutie!! That is a great picture…like something that should be in a magazine or something.

No worries mom, I am sure she loves you no matter what kind of cake you make her. 🙂

  13. Happy birthday to your baby girl :). Beautiful picture! For the first year, my brother loved it when we took pictures of him; the flash made him laugh! So we have a thousand lol. But after he started to hate it because he didn’t want to stay still for 30 seconds :P.
This cake is perfect for when I want a quick dessert & I’m all alone!

  14. …your itty bitty has the most gorgeous eyelashes I’ve ever seen! Money shot, indeed 🙂

Don’t beat yourself up, mum. I’m sure that cake didn’t go uneaten! It looks pretty scandelicious to me! Buzzed and Happy Birthday to your little girl!

  15. What a beautiful post… Happy birthday to your little girl! Your daughter sounds just like mine, and mine will be two in less than two months… More often than not, she picks store-bought cookies over anything I make (!), and she runs from the camera too… Me, I would gladly take that chocolate mug cake… It looks really yummy! I hope you all have a wonderful time at her birthday party 🙂 Great post!

  16. Happy birthday to your little beauty! It’s amazing everything that motherhood teaches you and brings with it, isn’t it?! Someday she’ll appreciate your cake over an oreo. I have no doubt. 🙂 Enjoy the rest of the day.

  17. Aaaawww, that’s awesome. Parenthood is without a doubt the greatest thing theat ever happened to me in life! That is a money shot indeed. I hardly noticed there was a recipe in this post.

Of course, my daughter was born 31 years ago. It never changes though. She’s still my everything!

  18. She is a smart girl, I would let someone take my picture for an Oreo… LOL love the pic you got of her, her eyelashes are so pretty! AND Kate I love this cake, as someone who lives alone- I dont need a whole cake for myself! I need to make this!

  19. Happy Birthday to your sweet daughter. I love your photo of her. Today is my dad’s birthday and tomorrow is my son’s birthday – he will turn 18. Enjoy the moments Kate, it goes by in a flash.
I am going to make my child this chocolate mug cake for in the morning! Maybe I should make two of them!!

  20. That is a beautiful photo of her! Worth the oreo in my opinion 🙂
Little kids march to their own drum and I wouldn’t have it any other way – it’s what makes them so interesting. lol Happy birthday Ana!
