Top Chef A-Listers

First and foremost, Happy Valentine’s Day! I’ve got a quick Strawberries and Cream 3 minute mug cake! But before we get to the cake, I need to tell you about one of my favorite shows, Top Chef.

On more than one occasion I have discussed my love for Bravo TV. I can’t even go to bed until I watch Andy Cohen’s Watch What Happens Live. Cracks me up!

Last night, just like any other night, I stayed up watching the later showing of #TopChef. I could not miss this one. In fact, I have only missed two episodes this entire season. I was literally on the edge of my seat. After Kristen’s departure, (I am still in shock about that one!) I don’t know what to expect.

On last night’s episode the chefs learned they have to take a helicopter ride to meet up with the judges. This was a huge deal for Brooke. She is claustrophobic, agoraphobic, phobiaphobic, and helicopterphobic. Poor girl. She somehow made it, even opened her eyes to see the spectacular Alaska mountains and glaciers. They even got to go dog sledding! Totally jealous.

They finally reached their destination where Padma and Tom were waiting for them with instructions on the Quickfire Challenge. They were instructed to make warm, comforting food in 30 minutes using whatever they could find in a kitchen as small as a janitor’s closet. The food was then served to the judges and a team of dog trainers. I think they were dog trainers. :/

Brooke served a pan-roasted halibut and she won. YES!

Sheldon also served a pan-roasted halibut, but Brooke’s was better.  Josh served breakfast. Again.

For their elimination challenge, the final three had to make a dish that represented the moment they realized that they wanted to become a chef. Oh, and they had to serve it to the Governor of Alaska. It wasn’t Sarah Palin. It was Sean Parnell.

In the middle of all this, Josh’s wife went into labor. All I could think was, he better ask to go home! But he didn’t!! I wonder if his wife beat him upside the head when he finally did get home because my man Josh was sent packing. He lost the challenge. His fois gras didn’t impress the judges. Bah Bye Joshie! One man closer to Brooke’s win. Brooke served chicken, but it must have been out of this world because she won the challenge! Again, YES!

I can’t wait to see the Finale. Brooke is going to win. I am willing to bet on it!

Next week I will be back with a final recap of the entire show.

Strawberries and Cream 3-minute Mug Cake | www.diethood.com | Last minute Valentine's Day Dessert | #valentinesday #cake #recipe #dessert #strawberries #cream | @diethood

Onto that 3-minute cake! Did you know that today is Valentine’s Day?! I thought I should remind you. Yes, you, the one that waits until the last minute to make something for his or her Valentine. This Strawberries and Cream 3-minute mug cake is for you! It literally takes 3 minutes to cook and 2 minutes to prepare. So maybe it’s the 5-minute mug cake, ha? Okay, technicalities. Sheesh!

Go grab a coffee mug and let’s get started! I’m pretty sure you have the rest of this stuff lying around. Strawberries, sour cream, flour, sugar… You have all that. Right? I hope so!

I must tell you that these mug cakes can be a tad bit tricky because everyone’s microwave is different. In my microwave oven this cake takes 3 minutes and 25 seconds to make. In yours it might take 3, or even 4 minutes. So if your cake is dry, it usually means you cooked it for too long. Or you overmixed. That can also happen. Don’t overmix. Mix just until all the ingredients are combined.

Need more ideas for tonight? Check out my French Silk Tart – nothing says love more than silky chocolate! Speaking of, how about some Chocolate Butterscotch Cookies to go with it? YUM! If you’re looking to serve something for dinner, here’s a quick, 30-minute Chili-Lime Steak with Roasted Vegetables.

ENJOY!

I’m sorry I missed this post cause I would have run out and picked up some cute Valentine’s Day coffee mugs for the occasion and whipped it up.

Note to self: Buy some strawberries. :)

PS: Made the cake today and it tasted very good with just the strawberries and some more marinated strawberries on top rather than the ice cream.

My microwave is very efficient so I think I’ll have to reduce my baking time to 2 min 45 sec or 2 1/2 minutes in future. :)

I’m also a Top Chef fan and rooting for Brooke! This cake looks and sounds great! I love microwave cakes like this.

So cute! I don’t trust my microwave with anything sweet, I think an angry hobgoblin lives inside it. :(

Have not watched Top Chef this season, but I can’t wait for TC Just Desserts to begin!

Aww, what a cute and simple idea! Low-carbers have been making their “mug cakes” for years. Never even knew about a conventional one. Looks scrumptious! Now…wondering about a flourless variation. Hmm… xo
