Recipe Ingredients

This easy waffles recipe uses simple ingredients you can easily find at any local grocery store. For the exact amounts and full instructions, scroll down to the recipe card.

  • All-purpose flour: These can also be made with almond flour or a gluten-free flour blend.
  • Baking powder: Acts as a leavening agent and makes the waffles light and fluffy.
  • Salt: Enhances the flavor.
  • Light brown sugar: Adds sweetness and a slight caramel flavor. Granulated sugar is okay to use.
  • 1/3 Less Fat Cream Cheese, softened: Adds creaminess and a slight tang. You can also use full fat cream cheese or sour cream.
  • Eggs, separated: Yolks add richness, and beaten whites add fluffiness.
  • Milk: You can also use almond milk, soy milk, or any milk alternative.
  • Canola oil: Adds moisture and helps create a tender texture. Vegetable oil or melted butter are good alternatives.
  • Pure vanilla extract: Adds flavor depth. For a different flavor profile, add almond extract instead.
  • Cold heavy whipping cream: Creates a rich and fluffy topping.
  • Honey: I use honey to sweeten the whipped cream but maple syrup or powdered sugar will also work.
  • Toppings: I use fresh berries and a drizzle of maple syrup or honey.

How To Make Cream Cheese Waffles

Cream cheese and waffles – who would’ve thought, but they make a great pairing! Follow these simple steps to whip up these deliciously fluffy and flavorful waffles in no time.

  1. Prep: Preheat the waffle maker.
  2. Combine the dry ingredients: Whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar in a bowl.
  3. Make the cream cheese mixture. Using an electric mixer, mix the cream cheese and egg yolks until smooth. Add in the milk, oil, and vanilla; mix until combined.
  4. Add the flour. Stir the flour mixture into the cream cheese mixture until just moistened.
  5. Prepare the eggs. Beat the egg whites until stiff peaks form; fold them into the cream cheese batter.
  6. Make waffles. Pour 1/3 cup batter onto the waffle iron; close the lid and cook for 2-3 minutes or until lightly browned and done.
  7. Meanwhile make the whipped cream. Using a stand mixer or your electric mixer, whip the heavy cream until it thickens; add honey and beat to soft peaks.
  8. Serve. Plate the waffles and top them with the honey whipped cream and fresh berries. Drizzle with maple syrup or honey if desired, and serve.
