CHOCOLATE COVERED FROZEN BANANAS

A quick and simple sweet treat to satisfy that sweet tooth. Healthy and delicious, they are an awesomely refreshing summer treat! They are sweet, cold, and so tasty, but much better for you than ice cream.

First time I had Chocolate Covered Frozen Bananas was at one of those County Fairs many moons ago; I was so intrigued by it, and so in love with it, that I went to the fair 3 times in one week so that I could have that banana again.

Chocolate dipped bananas topped with sprinkles, nuts, and coconut.

Once the Summer Fests were done, and I needed my frozen banana fix, I went to my Mom’s kitchen to recreate my newfound love. That same day I also found out that just because something looks simple it does not mean that it is simple.

I picked up a banana, dipped it in melted chocolate, put it on a tray, and in the freezer. Sounds right…right?

Ehh! Guess again!

HOW TO MAKE CHOCOLATE COVERED FROZEN BANANAS

When I went to get the banana a couple of hours later, the banana was almost all bare! The chocolate slipped right off it. I had to scrape the chocolate off the plate and into my mouth. Okay, so it wasn’t that bad of a mistake. 😉

You’re probably thinking why I didn’t just do a quick search. The answer to that is: Google didn’t exist back then, (no, I’m not ancient – it was early 90′s… and I’m 33), Yahoo was just starting out, and recipes were the last thing that were probably added to the search engines. (No research behind that statement…I could be wrong, 100%).

But, after a couple of trials and errors, I figured it out – freeze the banana before you dip it! So, it’s;

  1. CUT bananas in half and insert popsicle sticks
  2. freeze
  3. dip in melted chocolate
  4. sprinkle with toppings
  5. freeze again until firm.

I used to love these when I was a kid! Yours look so good. But I had a horrible habit of eating all of the chocolate off and only eating part of the banana. ๐Ÿ™‚

Looking at Ana’s happy face, I thought of my kids thinking they would enjoy this totally! Until I buy an ice cream maker, why not making frozen bananas! I was surprised to see we have to wait 6 hours till I get to eat them (such a long time after dipping melted chocolate…yum). You have all kinds of sweets that make kids happy. Thanks for sharing this recipe!

I was obssesed with these growing up as a kid! I wasn’t smart enough to make them back then, but I definately want to try it now. Your daughter is so lucky she will have fond memories of these growing up. =)

Until I tried them, I had no idea how good bananas were frozen. I haven’t tried them dipped in chocolate yet, though. That takes it to a whole new level. They look delicious!

I love chocolate covered bananas! I bought some at the store a few months ago and I haven’t had one since… I do have a bunch of frozen bananas in the freezer right now thought. I might just have to go buy some chocolate!

Yummm these looks delicious. I’ve never had chocolate dipped banana (sad, i know :< ) I usually make Vietnamese banana "ice cream": flatten ripe banana dipped in coconut milk sauce with shredded coconut and peanut.
Guess I have to buy some banana and chocolate now.
