Clearly, I’m continuing with the green this week. And the healthy!

We had Asparagus on Monday and today we’re having Kale. Don’t walk away! I promise, this smoothie is amazing!

But, first I need to share this bit with you!

I met up with a high school friend the other day and she has a daughter who is about to go to college. Umm. WHAT?! Holy hell! How did that happen?!

Seriously, that threw me off a bit. My oldest is 4-years old and loves to play dress-up. Her oldest is about to meet up with beer bongs!

Again. What the what?! We’re only 30-something. (ok. 36.)  Apparently, she decided to pop out the kids just as she turned 18.
Me, on the other hand? At that age?? I was like, “Where da party at?!?”. “I’m failing Econ!!!”. “Should I major in Psych or Journalism?!”. “He dumped me!! WAAAAAAH!”. That was 18-year old me.

And that’s my story. I’m still shocked.

In other news. This is like the thousandth recipe for a mash up of fruits + milk + ice that I now have on zee bloggy. Mango Banana, Pomegranate Yogurt, Strawberry Smoothie… I happen to really like fruits (and this time, veggies) in liquid form.

Really, though. This Kale Smoothie is much different than those other ones. (I have no clue what those other ones are…I just like saying that. I’m pretty sure those other ones taste just as good as this, but let’s just roll with it, m’kay?)

The depth of flavor in this smoothie is… deep? I mean, it’s beyond. Or, BEYOND! It’s sweet, yes, and very refreshing, of course. No, it does not taste like dirt and there is not an ounce of bitterness in this smoothie. Scouts honor. Black bananas and honey took over any earthy, bittery taste that results from kale.

I’m not a superfan of the superfood, Kale, but throw it in a blender, and I’m game.  I love the extra layer of flavor that it adds to my smoothies.
Oh. Yes. It can also fight cancer.

So. You know. Obviously, it’s totally worth it. Now, go make it.

I loved it. I used soy milk bucz I didn’t want it to go to waste. I always freeze my fruit so that worked out fabulous if you can get your hands on raw honey it makes all the difference. Can be found at Farmers Markets or health food store. Just as long as its not Buckwheat raw honey, it throws the taste off a lil. Great for allergies and colds though

Great smoothie without the cow milk. Cow milk is not good for us unless it is raw. That is widely known at this point, which makes my kids very sad! Water is better for you, or even better yet, try making homemade cashew milk and use that instead. It’s very easy:
1 cup raw cashews soaked 4-10 hours
4 cups fresh water (drain cashews and use new water)
Blend the 1 cup of cashews with maybe 1 and a half cups of the water to get the cashews really blended down into creamy goodness with almost no chunks and then add to the rest of the water and stir it up. No need to strain. Store in fridge for up to 7 days, I think (it never lasts that long in my house). I use a Nutribullet and L O V E it! That is one gadget that stays on my counter now that I’ve discovered it.

I started to wear Invisalign since last week and now I can’t drink hot coffee or tea anymore (unless I take it out, which is too much work to brush teeth and all), I’m more into smoothies lately. This sounds very refreshing and I would love to try this one soon!

I have been on a green smoothie kick lately but I haven’t tried making them with kale yet. I’m inspired!

You are too funny! Yeah, I was in your league at 18…no way marriageable material! And thank goodness someone has finally made a smoothie with kale that doesn’t taste like dirt. Now I can get on board 🙂

  6. Kristy

This is definitely a way I can get behind eating Kale! Looks great! And a kid going off to college…Oye. I know the day will be here all too soon!

Yep that was me! 19 years old and popping babies out and now he is IN college! And then I get my self remarried and have a 2 year old. Life happens, what can we say! I have some kale growing out there in my garden that I can not WAIT to try in this smoothie!

As I said to my friend, GOD BLESS all of you that were able to take care of babies at such a young age. You should be proud of yourselves. At that age all I thought about was what to wear to the next party… 😛

Most of my high school friends have grandchildren now and here I sit with a seven year old, so yeah, I feel your pain. It’s totally worth being older and wiser though (most days).

Dudette’s a huge smoothie fan. I just might see if I can sneak the good stuff in this one by her.

  9. Kathi @ Deliciously Yum!

I have had a couple of green smoothies, but never added kiwis before. I have got to change that ASAP! Looks extremely delicious and refreshing 🙂

I LOVE this smoothie! First of all…gorgeous shots, but also…isn’t it amazing how delicious greens are in smoothies? If you didn’t see the color, you would never know they were even in there!

  12. Taylor @ Food Faith Fitness

18 years old and having babies?! I’m only 23 and I am planning to wait a loooonnnng time!
This smoothie sounds fantastic! A good detox after all the treats I have been testing! Pinned

I made cookie dough frosting brownies this past weekend. I pretty much have had gigantic pieces every day since. I think it might be time for some greens. Balance right?
