These are not your classic chocolate chip cookies! These Banana Cookies are healthy, really delicious, and made with just 2 main ingredients: bananas and oats! Easy to make and perfect any time of the day!
Indulge in the simplicity of these Banana Cookies made with oats and chocolate chips, perfect for breakfast or as a protein-packed snack! In an effort to create a cookie without butter or flour, I turned to the pantry staples of oats and chocolate. This inspired the creation of a healthier version of the classic chocolate chip cookie. These cookies are not only quick and easy to make but also incredibly delicious. The best part is that you only need two main ingredients to whip up these treats! Whether it’s no-coat season or just a craving for something sweet yet nutritious, these cookies are your answer.
Recipe Tips
- Oats: Use quick cooking oats for this recipe. They’re cut smaller and thinner than old-fashioned oats, allowing them to blend better and absorb moisture more efficiently. Note, quick oats and old-fashioned oats are not the same. Quick oats absorb moisture faster and cook more quickly, making them ideal for this recipe.
- Customize with Add-ins: Feel free to experiment with add-ins like honey or peanut butter.
- Adding Chocolate Chips: Place additional mini chocolate chips on top of each cookie before baking, pressing them in lightly. This makes the cookies visually appealing and adds texture.
- Enjoy Anytime: These cookies are versatile – great for breakfast, a snack, lunch, or even dessert. The combination of oats and banana provides a nutritious treat any time of the day.

How To Make Banana Cookies
Below, I’ll walk you through the simple steps to create these wholesome treats. Enjoy baking, and savor these delicious cookies!
- Start by preheating the oven to 350˚F. Then, line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside.
- Next, mash the bananas until smooth and add quick-cooking oats. You can stop right there OR continue with some add-ins, like chocolate chips, honey, or even peanut butter. Play around until you find a favorite combination.
- Next, drop dough by large tablespoonfuls onto the baking sheet. Slightly flatten each cookie with oiled hands or the back of a spoon. Then add the remaining mini chocolate chips, resting them on top of the cookies with light pressure. Keep in mind that these cookies do not spread while baking.
- Bake the cookies for 15 minutes or until slightly browned on the edges. Then, remove from oven and let stand 1 minute. Transfer to cooling racks and let them cool completely before serving.
Proper Storage
Due to the fresh ingredients like banana, these cookies might not last as long as traditional cookies, so it’s best to enjoy them within a few days for optimal taste and texture. Store the cookies in an airtight container and at room temperature, these cookies should stay fresh for about 3 days. For long-term storage, you can freeze the cookies for up to 3 months. Thaw them on the counter before serving.

Can I ask why you put them in the freezer before baking?
Hi Laura!
The freezing firms up the cookies and will prevent them from spreading while they bake.
