Those recipe-introduction lines up there make me sound like the most annoying car salesman. Or, recipe salesman, in this case.
My husband sells cars… I hope he’s not this annoying. 😉

HI, Friends! What’s goin’ on? Are you suiting up for the weekend? Just a few more hours and you’ll get to flop onto that couch and Facebook-all-the-people for the next 48 hours!

Oh, hey. Remember that one time when we didn’t have Facebook? Like, the times when your little cousin was YOUR LITTLE COUSIN and you didn’t have to know everything about her teenage life via the duck-face pictures on your Facebook news feed??

Or, or, when your child’s teacher was just a teacher and you didn’t even know that she had a first name, but thanks to Facebook, she has a first name AND she drinks beer on the weekends?! Remember those days before you knew all this stuff? WOW. That was the life.
At least all my duck face pictures are on a polaroid… and in my possession, only.

And, and, how about that one time when you baked sliced apples in the microwave and ate all the apple chips??
I felt like the healthiest being on the planet.

So, I don’t have patience. I know that baking apple chips for hours on end, in the oven, and letting them dry just a little bit longer is the correct way to go about this apple-chip biznass, but I just can’t. I’m as anxious as a child on early Christmas morning. I want all the things, and I want them now.Stat.

Look at the yellow tint up there… What a beautiful action shot! 😛
BUT, that picture serves a purpose, and it’s described in two words; SINGLE LAYER. Remember those words…

Just minutes after coming home from the Apple Orchard last weekend, I was slaving over the mandoline, trying to save my fingers while slicing my Honeycrisps. Without adding a single crystal of sugar, nor a drop of cinnamon, I popped them in the microwave oven and within minutes, I had my fix. It was wonderful.

Healthy. Crispy. Fall-y.
Gluten Free, Dairy Free, Soy Free, Vegan, Vegetarian… I got it all covered.

You should totally make some while thinking about what to do with all them apples.
Then, you should totally come back in a day or two and see what else I did with them apples!

Happy Weekend!

Prep Time 3 minutes
Cook Time 7 minutes
Total Time 10 minutes

  • Apples , washed and dried

  • Cut off the ends of an apple, core out the middle (I don't), and thinly slice into 1/8-inch rounds. This is best done with a Mandoline Slicer, but you can also use a sharp knife.
  • Line a microwave safe plate with parchment paper.
  • Place a few apple slices on parchment paper in one single layer. (You will have to do this in batches.)
  • Microwave for 4.5 to 5 minutes, or until edges of apples start to curl up.
  • Flip each slice and continue to microwave for 30 seconds to 1 minute, or until edges are crisp.
  • Remove from microwave and let stand 10 minutes, or until crispy and dry.
  • Serve immediately.

All microwaves are different; start watching the apples at about the 4-minute mark until you can determine the proper time needed to bake the apples in your microwave. If the apples are small, about 2-inches in diameter, decrease the time by 1-minute. RECIPE SOURCE: DIETHOOD

Your microwave could be set at HIGH heat, but all microwaves heat up differently so that might not even matter. If you can, set it to MEDIUM heat and then cook the apple slices.

  1. I wish people wouldn’t comment unless they actually make the recipe. You add nothing except your voice no one cares about hearing.

This is my daughter’s favorite dry apple dish. I guess I’ll make it a little bit this weekend, this dish will taste better with a bit of cinnamon powder and honey.

  3. All I can say is YUM YUM YUM! Definitely put them on the middle rack to get that crispy texture. Also, I added more sugar and cinnamon and they turned out great!!!

SOOOO fun, Becky! I like the idea of making them in the microwave. Anytime I’ve ever tried to make them in the oven, they just do not crisp and if they do crisp it usually means they have burnt to a crisp! Pinned!

This microwave apple chips are actually very good in taste and you can also add in some desserts.

  10. I decreased the time by TWO whole minutes and half of mine were still too burnt to eat and the others weren’t crispy. 🙁

Oh that’s a great idea! I haven’t tried it, though, so I can’t really say for sure that it will work. BUT thank you for the idea! I will get on that asap. 😀

  11. recipe says serve immediately… Just wondering if these would keep for a day or so with air tight seal. Perfect road trip snack 🙂

  12. So I tried this an followed all the directions an before 4 min was over my Apple’s started burning an smoked filled my kitchen an freaked my kids out. So second batch went in the over at 200 degrees. Oh well.

    1. I just made a batch. After 4 minutes, some of them were very brown on the edges, so I put those in the middle, turned them all over and continued cooking on power 4 in the microwave. Then I decided to check the internet to see if there was anything I needed to know and came across this site. So, I think it will work better if you lower your power.
      Hope that helps.
