HI!!! *waving*
I’M BACK!!!
It’s been a while, I know. When I take a vacation I forget to come back. 😉 BUT, I only take a vacation once a year, so not to worry, it will be a while before I leave again.
By the way, I am soooo jet lagged. There’s a 7 hour time difference and now I go to bed at 7 p.m. and I wake up at 4 a.m… this needs to change… It always takes me at least a week.
But, while I was away visiting my beautiful country, Macedonia, I picked up a little something for you!
An authentic, Macedonian hand-made baking clay dish! Do you love it? I hope so! 🙂
Many of Macedonia’s national dishes are cooked in clay pots, so I immediately ran to one of the oldest bazaars in Macedonia located in the capital of Skopje and bought one for you…errrr….for one of you!

And now here’s a popular Macedonian dish, Turli Tava (mixed pot), that is cooked in a clay dish (can be done in any other casserole dish), and it is people’s most favorite in the summer and fall. It’s also very delicious.

Can this dish also be prepared in a Ninja Foodi or other air fryer/cooker?
I was deployed to Macedonia way back. The food there is amazing! We stopped at a restaurant in Skopje, and for the life of me, I can’t remember the name of the dish. It came out in a clay pot with bread sealing the lid. It was thicker than a normal stew, almost like an American chili but with large pieces of beef. Is this that same dish or is I something else. I would love to make it for my wife.
I have a pot just like yours that I brought back from Macedonia . But I donโt know how to prepare before using it. Someone told me to fill it with water and put it in the oven on high heat. Someone else said to oil it and then let it bake in the oven. I,m scared to use it in case something goes wrong.
Hi Lena!
Are you afraid that it will break in a hot oven? I haven’t had that problem, but I was told to soak it in cold water for 15 minutes before its first use.
Then, when ready to bake, put the clay pot inside the oven and then turn on the oven. For this recipe, I cook it at 350หF and just stir it around several times during the cooking process. At the end, you can increase the heat to 425หF so to get a bit of browning on top. I hope that helps. ๐
We followed the recipe exactly and got a tasteless mix of meat and vegetables at the end… Definitely, something’s wrong with this recipe. We have been to Macedonia and the food there is great, nothing like this
