My name is Katerina, and I am a cookie-maker, baker-faker, food-taker. Errr! I mean, picture-taker!

I am also a mom to two wonderful, amazing little girls, Ana and Aleksandra, and wife to my very handsome, awesome, loving husband named Goce (Go-tse).

About Diethood. That’s one word, Diethood, not Diet Hood.

First and foremost, this is not a Diet-Food Food Blog. The word “diet” refers to the sum of the food consumed by yours truly. And my family!

However, I do feel like I’m always on a diet. Every weekend I tell myself that I will start to eat healthier on Monday. Monday comes and goes, and I’m still eating Chocolate Mousse Brownies and a few Blondies with Caramel Bits and White Chocolate Drizzle.

For me eating is not about just sitting down to eat; it’s a moment to share, it’s an enjoyment, it’s a passion, it’s something that satisfies not just a craving, but also the curiosity about the food’s texture and taste. (Wow, that sounds sexy! I made food sound sexy!)

My skills for cooking wholesome, sometimes healthy, delicious, good-for-you food, as well as authentic Macedonian dishes, have earned me a recurring role in this household’s kitchen…

Actually, we would starve if I didn’t cook.

In all honesty, I just took over the kitchen because I love to spend my time in it. And because of that love, I started this Blog.

Armed with a passion for cooking, baking, food photography, entertaining, and all food-related subjects, I decided it was time to hang up my suit, put the apron on, and join the food blogging community.

My intent with this blog is to also inspire you to go into that kitchen and fry that egg! Or better yet, make those fried pizza sandwiches How about a delicious, simple French Silk Tart! Or that New York Style Crumb Cake!! This is when I should mention that I’m addicted to sweets. Lots and lots of sweets. Just go to the Recipe Index and you will see.

If you appreciate easy, everyday, delicious food, then you most certainly will enjoy your stay here.

Thank you SO much for stopping by!

Na Zdravje! (Pronounced, “Nice Driveway”, and that’s Macedonian for, “To Your Health!”)

NOTE: Please feel free to use or share my recipe links, but DO NOT post the entire recipe on your page or blog. I just ask that you link back to me so that credit is given where credit is due.

Also, all of the photography on Diethood is shot by yours truly. I am not a professional, but I do what I can. If you would like to share/use any of my photos, please contact me first.

If you would like to work together, please click here for details.

Thank You!

Hahaha. my father always says that. But he’s polish… this is first time I’ve seen (heard) “Nice Driveway” from anyone else.:)

hehe :) Your dad knows what he’s talking about! :-) I always use it! That phrase, or expression, sounds very similar in all Slavic languages.

Hi Katerina! Will you share some more of your mom’s “bite” recipes? I’m a grandma and love to try different recipes on the Grandkids! I just made the German Chocolate Bites (they are in the refrigerator getting cold now!) Can I freeze them as I won’t have them for the kids until Easter (this Sunday)? I can’t wait to try them. ALSO I had a lot of chocolate left over so I spread it on Graham Crackers!

I love your blog! The recipes are absolutely divine! And I do like your photos. Your “about” page cracks me up! Yes…aren’t most of us amateurs when it comes to taking photos? But yours do look fabulous! Keep on sporting the Macedonian-twist on the foods. I’m Croatian and Polish, so I’m always trying to represent food from “home”. Thanks for rocking it!

Hi Katerina! I saw your Tavce Gravce recipe on tasty kitchen. I am also Macedonian :) I have your site bookmarked! Being first generation here I don’t know how to cook alot of the traditional stuff (although mama & baba sure do….yummy).

    Hi Katerina,

I came across your blog while searching for a recipe for kifli. I’m so glad I did. Loving it!
I am an Australian with a Macedonian background. My mother is a superb cook of Macedonian food and I love her kifli. However, I thought I would surprise her with making them on my own without her help. I have mastered maznik so far, so I guess making kifli will be slightly easier. Fingers crossed.

    • Kate@Diethood December 23, 2012 at 8:46 AM - Reply

      Hi Nancy!!

I am so glad you came across my site! Our Moms do make some amazing kifli and maznici, don’t they! Love it! IF you can make maznik, then you can make kifli… maznik is tough! Stretching all that dough without ripping it?! Ummmmm What were our Babas thinking! ;-D

      • Nancy R December 23, 2012 at 2:56 PM - Reply

Oh Katerina! Believe me, I did not realise just how hard and time consuming maznik was to make. I learnt the hard way and while being 9 months pregnant! To top it off that was last Christmas and it was my turn to host (we take turns within the family to host Xmas each year). Also it was summer here in Oz and our temperature was soooo hot that day.Sadly my Baba passed away last year, however I’m sure she would have been proud of me.
Looking forward to cooking with recipes from your sight.
May you have a wonderful Xmas day and an amazing New Year.

I just found your blog while doing a search for Macedonian recipes.
I’m hosting a going away party for daugher’s best friend who is going into the Peace Corps and will be placed in Macedonia. So, my search was an attempt to come up with a menu to include some ethnic dishes. Your site is wonderful and helped so much!! I’ve bookmarked it, and not just for the Macedonian recipes.

I was just wondering, are you from Macedonia or some other part of that region? My husband is from Serbia and I fell in love with Nutella! I think it can be spread on just about anything!!!!! I especially love that our local Wal-Mart now carries the larger sized jar of Nutella so I don’t have to buy so many little ones! Love the recipes – thanks for sharing!

    • Kate @ Diethood.com February 7, 2011 at 10:24 PM - Reply

      Hi Kelli!
Yes, I’m Macedonian :). I was born there, but have lived in the States since the age of 11. If you’re from that region, chances are that you grew up on Nutella or Eurokrem, like your husband and I did. :)

      Thank you for visiting, Kelli!
