Held together with a mixture of melted marshmallows and butter, and dipped in Frosting, these Marshmallow Popcorn Balls make great treats for kids, especially around Halloween!
Prep. Line two baking sheets with wax paper and set them aside.
Prepare the popcorn. Pop the popcorn. Place the popped popcorn in a large buttered bowl. Set aside.
Make the marshmallow mixture. Melt the butter and salt in a saucepan. Add half of the mini marshmallows to the butter mixture and stir until they melt. Stir in the rest of the marshmallows and continue to stir until melted.
Combine. Pour the marshmallow mixture over the previously prepared popcorn and stir with a buttered wooden spoon until all the popcorn is coated.
Shape. Grease your hands with butter and quickly shape the popcorn mixture into balls, about the size of a softball (or make them as big as you'd like). Insert a popsicle stick into the center of each ball while they’re still warm.
Let them set. Place the popcorn balls on the wax-covered baking sheet to set. This could take 1 to 2 hours.
Warm the frosting. Once the popcorn balls are cooled, place the tub of frosting in the microwave and warm it in two 15-second bursts. The frosting will be melted, but not hot.
Finish and serve. Dip the popcorn balls in the frosting and set them back on wax paper to set before serving.
