Set a large 12-inch skillet over medium heat. Add the diced bacon to the skillet and cook for 6 minutes or until cooked to a crisp. Remove bacon from the skillet using a slotted spoon. Do not discard the bacon fat.
Set the skillet back over medium-high heat and add the green beans and mushrooms; season with salt and pepper and cook for 5 minutes, stirring frequently.
Stir in the garlic and cook for 10 seconds, then stir in the broth and bring to a simmer. Cover and continue to cook for 2 minutes.
In the meantime, in a mixing bowl whisk together the heavy cream and parmesan cheese.
Remove the cover from the green beans, stir in the heavy cream mixture, and bring to a simmer. Lower heat to medium-low and continue to simmer for 2 to 3 minutes, or until the cream thickens.
Remove from heat and taste for salt and pepper; adjust accordingly.
Sprinkle previously cooked bacon over the green beans and mushrooms, and serve.
Notes
Green Beans: Use trimmed, fresh green beans for the best flavor and texture.
Mushrooms: If you wash the mushrooms, dry them thoroughly.
Variations: Feel free to tweak the recipe by adding slivered almonds or substituting sausage for bacon.
Flavor Infusion: For an extra kick, consider infusing the cream with chopped fresh herbs like rosemary or thyme before adding it to the pan.
Cheese Choice: While Parmesan is a classic option, experiment with other cheeses like Pecorino Romano or Grana Padano.
Seasoning: Adjust the salt and pepper to taste to ensure the perfect balance of flavors.
Thickening the Sauce: If you like a thicker consistency, allow the sauce to simmer a bit longer, or consider adding a slurry of cornstarch and water to thicken it up quickly.
Storage: Store leftovers in an airtight container and keep them in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
