Classic American Cheeseburger

Ingredients

  • 1- pound 98% lean ground beef
  • 1/2- cup finely diced onion
  • 4 garlic cloves minced
  • 1/2- cup breadcrumbs
  • salt and fresh ground pepper to taste
  • 1 egg
  • 8 American Cheese slices
  • 4 hamburger buns
  • ketchup
  • mayonnaise
  • tomato slices
  • red onion sliced
  • lettuce leaves

Instructions

  1. Combine ground beef, onion, garlic, breadcrumbs, salt, pepper and egg; mix until thoroughly combined.
  2. Divide mixture into four equal portions; shape into a patty about 4 inches wide.
  3. Preheat gas grill.
  4. Lay burgers on gas grill; close lid.
  5. Cook burgers, turning once, until browned on both sides and no longer pink inside, about 7 minutes.
  6. Top with 1 cheese slice and continue to cook for 1 minute, or until cheese begins to melt.
  7. Remove from grill.
  8. Lay buns, cut side down, on grill and cook until lightly toasted, about 1 minute.
  9. Spread mayonnaise and ketchup on bun bottoms.
  10. Top with remaining cheese slices.
  11. Add lettuce, tomato, burger patty, and red onion.
  12. Cover with bun-tops and serve.
