White Sangria is the ideal drink for brunches, outdoor gatherings, or simply enjoying on a warm summer day. This concoction features sweet summer fruits soaked in white wine and brandy and is finished with a splash of club soda for a refreshingly sophisticated sip.

What is Sangria

Sangria is a popular alcoholic beverage originating from Spain. It traditionally consists of red wine mixed with fruits, such as oranges, lemons, and berries, sweetened with sugar, and often enhanced with a splash of brandy or another liqueur. Over time, numerous variations have emerged, including white sangria, made with white wine instead of red. This refreshing cocktail is known for its fruity, sweet flavor profile and is typically enjoyed chilled, making it a favorite for social gatherings and hot summer days.

The Ingredients

The ingredients for my white wine sangria recipe are flexible, allowing you to adapt to your preference. Feel free to experiment with your favorite white wine and the fruits you have on hand.

  • Sliced Strawberries: If unavailable, raspberries can offer a similar tartness and sweetness.
  • Thinly Sliced Peaches: They contribute a juicy sweetness, adding to the sangria’s summery vibe. Nectarines are a great substitute.
  • Thinly Sliced Apple: The apples provide that balance of sweet and tart flavors.
  • Chilled White Wine: Pinot Grigio, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, or any dry white wine.
  • Brandy: Whiskey or rum could be used instead.
  • Cointreau or Triple Sec: Any orange liqueur like grand marnier will fit the bill for adding a citrusy note.
  • Sparkling Water or Club Soda: Gives the sangria a refreshing fizz, making it even more enjoyable. Tonic water can be a substitute if you don’t mind the slight bitterness it adds.
  • Lime Slices and Mint (for garnish): Used to add a fresh and citrus aroma. Lemon slices could be used, but they will add a slightly different flavor.

How To Make White Sangria

My sangria recipe here reinvents traditional red sangria with an infusion of vivid summer flavors and white wine. This sweet, festive drink is a must-try if you’re hosting this summer. In mere minutes, you’ll have a fantastic beverage ready to serve. You could even use frozen fruits for a quick fix and an extra chill factor!

  1. Prep the fruit. Begin by slicing strawberries, peaches, and apples. Aim for thin slices, except for the strawberries; halve these instead. I recommend about 6 cups of fruit to fill a quarter to a third of your pitcher.
  2. Mix the drink. Pour chilled white wine, brandy, Cointreau (or Triple Sec), and sparkling water into the fruit-filled pitcher. Stir well and chill until ready to serve.
  3. Serve. Finally, garnish with limes and mint for a refreshing touch, and serve.

Recipe Tips

  • Fruit Selection: The beauty of sangria lies in its versatility. While strawberries, peaches, and apples are suggested, you can swap in other fruits you love or have on hand.
  • Chill, Chill, Chill: Ensure all ingredients, especially the wine, are well-chilled before mixing. This helps to keep your sangria refreshing and flavorful.
  • Take Your Time: While you can enjoy the sangria immediately, letting it sit in the refrigerator for a few hours will enhance the flavors as the fruit and wine have more time to mingle.
  • Make Ahead: You can prepare your sangria a day in advance. Just remember to skip the seltzer water or club soda until just before serving.
  • To Taste: The best sangria is the one tailored to your taste, so feel free to experiment until you find your perfect blend.

What Is The Best Wine for White Sangria

  1. This recipe is the closest to blanco sangria I had in Spain. I did substitute Sprite for the club soda. I think Pino Grigio works well.

  2. Nothing says summer like white wine and sangria! This will be perfect to savor all summer long! Sounds delicious!

  3. This looks so crisp and refreshing! This will be great to serve at my niece’s graduation party this weekend!
