Sorrel Drink (Jamaican Hibiscus Punch)

Spiced and served on the rocks, this Jamaican Sorrel drink is prepared with dried hibiscus, and it's perfectly tangy, sweet, and refreshing.

Sorrel juice is a Jamaican spiced drink that's popular during the Christmas season. It's made with a combination of warm spices and dark brown or cane sugars.

What You'll Need

Water Orange peel Dried hibiscus Star anise Whole cloves Ground allspice Ground cinnamon Ground ginger Dark brown sugar Ice Orange wedges

Add the Peel


In a medium-sized pot, bring the water to a boil and add the orange peel. Let it simmer for 2 minutes.

Add the Hibiscus


Stir in the hibiscus, star anise, whole cloves, and allspice. Simmer for 5 minutes. Then add cinnamon and ginger.

Add the Sugar


Stir in the brown sugar until fully dissolved. Let the mixture simmer for another 3 minutes, then remove from heat.

Strain It


Strain the punch to remove the spices, hibiscus, and orange peel.

Chill It


Pour it into a large pitcher and let it rest for 30 minutes, or until room temperature.



Add ice to serving glasses and pour in the punch. Garnish with orange wedges, and enjoy.
