Sun Dried Tomatoes and Basil Pesto Tuna Salad – Combined with delicious basil pesto and flavorful sun dried tomatoes, this tuna salad is about to become your next favorite salad recipe that is perfect for any summer barbeque or just for lunch!
Snack time!! No, wait. I mean picnic time. No. I mean all-the-time.
Maybe I need to add a couple more things to that title and have it read, Sun Dried Tomatoes and Basil Pesto Tuna Salad Pita Pockets
Still too long.
Oh hi! I’m just adding a touch of lunch-picnic-bbq inspiration by stuffing it all in a pita pocket. It was also the only way to stop myself from spooning the whole bowl of tuna salad straight into my trap.
Also, happy-about-to-be-the-weekend!
The good news is that I made us a big bowl of goodness! Better news? There’s like, 5-ish ingredients, and it comes together in like, minutes.
This tuna salad is actually from my local grocery store! Well, not like FROM the store. Not like I bought it from there and threw it in a bowl, snapped a pic and bam. No no. Not like that. But. The idea came from the grocery store. Get it? Okay good.
They make a killer tuna salad with pesto and sun dried tomatoes, but then they also add a whole lot of other things to it, like mayo + the croissants… yah, so good. Calories-overload, but STILL. It’s so damn good!!
Anyhew. When my besties from STAR Fine Foods sent me these jars of Cara Mia Sun Dried Tomatoes, it didn’t take much for me to get on that salad and make it for us.
Made with fresh ripe tomatoes dried under the sun, these sun dried tomatoes are julienne cut and packed with sunflower oil, olive oil and special herbs. And once combined with basil pesto, albacore tuna, and creamy yogurt? They make the most incredibly tasty tuna salad.
This salad is great to make in bulk for lunches throughout the week, or for your next get together, and even as a quick dinner. In other words, it’s a salad with super powers.
I love using albacore tuna because it has a mild flavor, is always available in practically every grocery store, and it’s budget-friendly. I also like to make my own basil pesto, but I realize that sometimes OUR super powers need to be used elsewhere, thus I reached for the little jar at the store and all was still well with the world.
Look at that. Stress free lunch/appetizer/dinner ready in 10 minutes. Stuff it in pita pockets and you get a hearty, perfectly Mediterranean tuna sandwich.
ENJOY!

This looks great and can’t wait to try! A couple questions – I assume the nutrition info does not include the pita pockets? And also, it says 3g of protein, but it’s got to be higher than that (I calculate 16.5g per person for the tuna)?
Thanks!
Just made it this afternoon and smells delish! I’m going to let it chill for a bit before I enjoy. Question: I may have overlooked, but what is the serving size? 🙂
Hi Nina! No, you didn’t miss it. I have been trying to use a new recipe card on my website, but for some reason it erases the serving sizes and some of the other nutritional info. So sorry about that! I have updated the recipe with the old card and this Tuna Salad serves 4. Hope you will enjoy it!! 🙂
Thank you!!
