There are some things that happen and make me realize that I really am an adult. With children. And married. So, it’s established. I’m married…with children.
Therefore, sometimes you just have to give in. Give in to the little hands that want to bake, the little hands that want to throw around sprinkles, the little hands that want to tear down the house… Just give in. It’s easier that way.
Last week I did just that and this is what happened:
We had an awesome Valentine’s Day Party, filled with chocolate, Valentine Cookie Pops, Heart-Shaped Cinnamon Rolls, and a Chocolate Covered Strawberry Jam Sugar Cookie Tart as big as my heart!
I figured, with Valentine’s Day approaching, the best way to let my little ones do as they want in the kitchen, is to throw them a Valentine’s Day Party with a few of their closest friends.
Using our favorite Pillsbury Refrigerated Sugar Cookie Dough and Pillsbury’s Cinnamon Rolls, prepping and baking with the little ones was incredibly quick and easy. We started with their favorite Valentine Sugar Cookie Pops using Pillsbury’s Ready-To-Bake Refrigerated Sugar Cookies. However, they weren’t interested in prepping the cookies as much as they were interested in decorating the cookies. Did you know?! Kids LOVE sprinkles! I cleaned the floors about 5 times that day. I’m sure there’s a sprinkle or two still hiding in a corner.
We then moved onto the Sweetheart Cinnamon Rolls. The kids had SO MUCH FUN shaping these treats into hearts. They were giggling and high-fiving each other as soon as the rolls started to resemble a heart. When it came to spreading the icing? Well…kids will be kids. They dumped the entire tub of icing on top of the rolls and called it a day.
The rest of our time was spent at the table, eating our treats, fighting for cookies, enjoying a sweet chocolate tart, and exchanging gifts from the heart.
The best part about throwing this party? Rediscovering the joy that I felt when my Mom allowed me to join her in the kitchen. Licking the bowls, shaping the cookies, and throwing tantrums because I wasn’t allowed to pull said cookies out of the oven. Something about it being hot and that I would burn myself… what.ev.
