Grilled Barbecue Chicken and Vegetables in Foil

This Is The Ultimate BBQ Chicken Recipe For Summer!

Easy grilled chicken smothered with bbq sauce and topped with veggies is the ultimate summer food!! Each little packet is complete with tender, juicy and delicious meat and veggies.

Why, yes, I seriously AM showing you how to drench chicken in barbecue sauce, stick it in a foil-pack and grill it! It all started with FFWD…
Besides, if it wasn’t for foil-pack dinners, we wouldn’t survive. Okay, kidding! But still. It’s a good story.

SO! Hiiii, you guyyyyys! How are you? All is well? GOOD!

In this corner over here it’s a little past midnight, I’m chomping on Wheat Thins – reduced fat – and talking to you!

Why am I up this late, working?

Beeeecause… I went for a run on the treadmill at 10 pm and now I am friggin’ wired! I can’t fall asleep. I can’t even sit still. I could literally go for a Tarjay-run right this minute, if only Tarjay was open this late.

I’m also starving, and looking at this delicious grilled barbecue chicken is not helping. I could eat a horse. I won’t. But I could.

Grilled BBQ Chicken Recipe

I occasionally pride myself on being able to throw together somewhat creative and delicious meals including chicken – which is something that someone must do when their only reason for not going vegetarian IS grilled chicken – and adding things like tons of sweet-with-heat barbecue sauce is something I could inhale day after day.

Come to think of it, we can never get enough of this. You just can’t stop taking, bite after bite… By the end of they day?!? Only crumbs remain. Seriously awesome chicken… seriously.

I’m a very fun girl, I promise.

Grilled Chicken and Vegetable Foil Packets

This Chicken Has The Best Homemade BBQ Sauce

Okay so, the chicken and veggies are really incredible. I enjoy this more than the Italian Chicken I made for you last year. This is packed with enough flavor that I’d MAYBE consider eating it without the barbecue sauce. I’m lying.

The real winner here IS the barbecue sauce! AND I want to slather it on everything humanly possible.

P.S. Use YOUR favorite bbq sauce, m’kay? Cool.

  1. This turned out perfect as written. So delicious, not to mention healthy! Will be making this again soon!

  2. I made these over the 4th of july and everyone loved them. The only issue I had was all the liquid that was in the pouch when I opened them. How is everyone else keeping this from happening.? A little liquid is good to keep chicken from drying out but I had to have a bowl on the table to drain each pouch before plating them. Will small holes in the foil end up making it all dry out since most of the liquid will escape?

We grill this up regularly with zucchini, bell peppers, and asparagus and serve with potato salad. Or we bake it up in the winter.

  4. Amazing work! I love the way you explain all the things. But I want to know should I grilled it on the electric smoker or not. If I do than for how minutes I have to grill it.

  5. Hey i have read it and finally get wha ti want thanku for this. When out camping I’ve always done vegetables in foil like this over the fire (with grated cheese and bbq sauce) but i’ve never thought to add any meat! Next time im out i’ll be sure to try this one out. Thanks so much again!

  6. A very good recipe I must say.. Recommended by my friend and now i am thankful to you the most….

  7. Yeah!!!!
Its all time favorite. Now, I am feeling hungry and wanna get it now. Amazing to hear from you.

  8. This is a great go to for us when camping! Converted a little girl who didn’t like chicken, into one who loves it now! Thanks for this recipe!

  9. Hey Katerina, I had tried Grilled Barbecue Chicken two days back at a restaurant. I just can’t take that delicious taste out of my mind and finally end up trying your recipe at my home. It was so delicious. Thank you for sharing. Keep sharing delicious recipes.

  10. Definitely excited to give this a try! I love barbecue chicken and always looking for ways to try it in different ways. Thank you Katerina.

  11. The first time I cooked with aluminium foil, I foolishly used steak instead of chicken. It did not turn out well! The meat came out boiled and tough. You’re recipe has inspired me to give it another go – using chicken this time!

  12. It looks very good, it’s very healthy with the exception of BBQ sauce, but I love my BBQ sauce!!!

I’m 1295% certain that a horse would not taste as good as this zero clean up chicken number. Or even wheat thins. Love this fuss free dinner.

  16. i used this recipe tonight. I actually threw in a couple of those fingerling potatoes and they came out nicely as well. Thanks for the recipe, this tasted awesome!

  17. I tried these tonight and they did not come out well. There was so much liquid in the packets when they were done the chicken and veggies looked poached, not grilled. I had to drain the liquid and put them back on the grill, which kind of defeats the purpose of the easy little pouches. Maybe next time I should put a few holes in the bottom of the foil to drain the liquid as they cook.

  18. I made this in the oven tonight! My son LOVED it!!! I used bottle barbecue sauce and it really lacked the flavor I was looking for. So thankful to see your recipe for the sauce! I used asparagus, baby red potatoes, and corn (vegetables I had on hand). The chicken was juicy, asparagus a little over done for me (I like it to crunch a little) but everything else was good. I am overjoyed that my son gave it a 9 out of ten!
Thanks so much for a “fun” recipe!

We made this tonight for the second time and it’s delicious – even my husband says so! I was wondering about the grill marks but it isn’t too important for us – just looks nice. Tonight’s did have a lot of juice in the foil which I didn’t remember from the first time so I may have put too much BBQ sauce. I love the ease of cooking with no worries of chicken sticking to BBQ grill … According to hubby we have to have friends over so we can do this We did new potatoes in foil with chunks of onion and butter & oil …. Yum!

  20. I would sear the chicken before putting in on the grill in the packets. I sealed mine up tight and they puffed up like balloons from the steam. I did put the chicken on the grill for grill marks and basted with BBQ sauce and it was little dry. Searing it first should seal in the juices better when cooking in the packets. The veggies were also too mushy for my liking. Might do them separately next time.

I made this and it came out steamed not grilled and no seasonings, followed directions packets had water that poured out so all barbecue sauce was gone we still ate it but it was dry

  21. My dad tried this the other night and it was a big hit!! I found your recipe on Pinterest and we decided to try it out and it was delicious! ☺️

  22. OK this looks just yuuuuummmmmmyyyyyy, but I have to know what is your favorite barbecue sauce. Every time I try one, it leaves me wanting a different one. I love the flavor of hot and sweet.

  23. Hey cool recipe. When out camping I’ve always done vegetables in foil like this over the fire (with grated cheese and bbq sauce) but i’ve never thought to add any meat! Next time im out i’ll be sure to try this one out. Thanks!

  24. This barbecue chicken is great for my family, thanks for sharing this recipe. We really love this food.

  25. How far in advance can I prepare the foil packets? I want to throw a big party and would like to do some prep a couple days before?

    1. Katerina - Diethood
      Katerina Petrovska

Hi Rachael! Because I’m afraid of cross contamination, I would prepare it all the night before – chop the veggies, thaw the chicken – BUT I would not prepare the packets until I was ready to grill. Having the veggies next to the raw chicken for a day or two I think is too long, and that kind of scares me. 🙂

          Katerina Petrovska

Refrigerate!! 😉 Hope you like it!

P.S. It just dawned on me that my mom used to prepare shish kebabs the night before with raw meat and veggies on the skewers and we’re still alive… so… 😀

Wow, Katerina… this is awesome! So beautiful to serve and it looks absolutely delicious… great job and thanks for sharing 🙂

  27. Can I use tenderloins for the packets? How much would that reduce the grilling time? I’m pretty new at grilling 🙂 And when you say turn it… Do you mean flip it?

    1. Katerina - Diethood
      Katerina Petrovska

Hi Lorlie! Yep, flip it. 😀 You can use tenderloins, but I would start checking for doneness a little sooner – at about the 17 minute mark. As long as the thermometer reads 165F or higher, they’re good to go. 🙂

  28. I made this in the oven tonight at 400 degrees and it’s taken about 50 minutes to bake. I had to uncover it the last 10 minutes because the chicken was just not cooking. don’t count on a 25 minute meal if baking this recipe.

    1. Katerina - Diethood
      Katerina Petrovska

Hi Jennifer! Yeah, you can’t get grill marks if it’s in foil, but for the sake of a better photo, I removed the chicken from the foil once it was cooked, placed it on the grill for a few minutes to get the grill marks and then back in the foil to take the photo. 🙂

    2. I was wondering the same thing- I don’t think it would look anything like the pics if made according to the recipe

      1. Katerina - Diethood
        Katerina Petrovska

Hi Holly! If you want the grill marks, once the chicken is done, remove it from the foil, place it on the grill for a minute or two on each side and serve.

          1. Katerina - Diethood
            Katerina Petrovska

Hi Laurie! After all was cooked and done, I put them on the grill for maybe a minute or so, just to get those grill marks.

      Great question, Katerina!
I made my husband read this recipe to see if he’d be interested in this dinner.
      That was his first question.
I just gave him deer in the headlights look.

    1. Katerina - Diethood
      Katerina Petrovska

Hi Debra! I took the chicken out of the foils and place them on a hot grill – I allowed it to sizzle for just about a minute on both sides, photographed it and served it.
…these are just some of the things we do for prettier pictures. 😉

Can we start a petition to keep Target open 24 hours a day? Sometimes you just need to impulse shop in the middle of the night. And Walmart just doesn’t cut it.

I’m going to have my husband make this soon. It looks so good!
