Dark Chocolate Cherry Energy Bites | www.diethood.com | Studded with dried cherries and loaded with dark chocolate chips, these healthy cookie energy bites are sweet, delicious, and incredibly easy to make! AND you don't have to bake!

Hey, you guys! It’s the first Monday of the new year… Let’s make it a good one!

Also, since it IS the first Monday of 2015, we must welcome it with a bowl filled with healthified cookies. Err. Energy Bites.

You know what I always say… ‘Tis the season when your body could sue you for treason!’.
It’s true. All that yumminess we just stuffed ourselves with… sheesh! Kale and oats are the only things we should be allowed to eat for the next 10 months.

But now it is the season to make it right with dark chocolate and cherries. And oats and peanut butter. A.K.A., our intervention-ingredients.

Side note: I can’t join you on this bandwagon today because Wednesday is Christmas for me, but let’s pretend. Regardless, I eat cherries and dark chocolate almost every day. Ahem.

Which brings me to… energy bites. Which is really just a low maintenance mash-up of all good things!

This recipe-idea was not born from my brain. Well, partially, it was. It was born from two things that came together; My Fruit & Nut Bars (old recipe) + Pinterest.
Right now, at this very moment, Pinterest = Energy Bites-all-the-things!

Either we are ALL looking for more energy or we are looking for more… oats!? Ummm… I have no clue.

What I CAN clue you in on is that these little treats will satisfy your sweet tooth, your healthy tooth, and your too-lazy-to-bake tooth.

It’s even better when you eat like five (OR twenty) pieces while binge-watching Anthony Bourdain’s “Parts Unknown”. With a glass of Chardonnay on the side.

But I would know nothing about that…

If you have never had bites of energy, there is no better time than now to go and make them. You won’t be disappointed. Buhlieve me!

ENJOY!

  1. I want to make your dark chocolate -cherry energy bites. I just started to eat gluten free and I would like to know if
quick cooking rolled oats are gluten free? if not what else would I be able to use. thank you pat.

  2. Hi Kat! So I don’t know if you remember me or not, but I met you at the Eat Write Retreat a few weeks ago in Chicago. You were so much fun – and such a breathe of fresh air, even in the brief amount of time I spoke with you. ANYWAYS, I was searching for the perfect vegan cookie recipe for my friend who is sick (and loves when I make vegan cookies) and stumbled across this one on Pinterest. As soon as I clicked over to your site and saw “Diethood” I knew EXACTLY where I was. It was meant to be. I’ll be making them first thing tomorrow. Please stay in touch. I’ll check in to Diethood every now and again for another yummy fix. I hope all is well!

    1. Hi Eileen!! I don’t post nutritional values because most of the counters I find online are not always 100% accurate and I don’t want to mislead anyone. But, if you like, you can go to this address: http://caloriecount.about.com/cc/account/flog_add.php?tab=new_recipe Just copy the recipe, paste it in that little box and it will give you all the info you need. According to this counter, 1 of these energy bites is a little over 122 calories. I hope this helps!

  3. I need these for afternoon snack time because all this healthy eating is leaving me hungry! Plus I love that you suggest cashew butter, it’s a favorite.

  4. I’ll admit to never having bites of energy…what in the heck is wrong with me!? These sound fantastic, but I’m pretty sure I’d push the limit of the energy into the extra calories category. Totally worth it.

  5. These look like a perfect take-to-work snack for that dreaded 2pm blood sugar slump. Loving the combo of dried cherries and chocolate… this way, I can pretend they’re fancified truffles instead of kinda sorta good for me. 🙂

  6. Oh, okay – You made a believer out of me. Personally I was planning on getting sued for treason, stuffing donuts and such – But since these energy bars pretty much cover my post Christmas laziness, I will have to give them a try.

  7. I am making these this weekend!!! I’d love to try the chocolate covered cranberries in this recipe.. These would be great to keep at work. Thank you for sharing!

  8. We have a few different energy bite recipes that we rotate through here, and they are always a hit with the whole family. I love the sound of these, especially with a good dose of dried tart cherries!
