French Silk Tart

Yesterday was my birthday. I turned 21. Again, of course.

I didn’t get a chance to properly celebrate due to prior engagements, but I did get to eat my birthday cake. But, it wasn’t a cake. In fact it was this French Silk Tart that I made for myself.

I have discussed my love for creamy desserts many times on this blog. I am not into cakes. If I had to pick between nibbling on spongy layers with frosting, or enjoying a creamy dessert with a thin and sweet crust, the latter would be my choice. No doubt about it.

This is probably the easiest dessert that you will ever make. Instead of a French Silk Pie, I decided to go with a French Silk Tart. It is a layer of crushed oreo cookies topped with chocolate whipped cream and finished off with another layer of, you guessed it, whipped cream. Add some chocolate shavings on top and serve. No baking involved. Just some refrigeration time so it sets.

All this tart talk is making me want to go and attack this loveliness one more time. I will wait until the kids go down for a nap, then it will be me, my tart, and the DVR. I need to see what happened with the Shahs of Sunset last night! Have I told you that I am a Bravo TV junkie? I am. That is my guilty pleasure. Another guilty pleasure – news networks. I am a news junkie. Politics, history, and food. That is me. With a mix of Real Housewives and the Shahs. 😉

  1. I came over when I saw the picture on Pinterest and started laughing as soon as I saw that you turned 21 again 🙂

My brother and I have this ongoing joke about how many times I can turn 21, he decided this year was the last, he doesn’t think 21 for the 9th time sounds quite right 😉 So I guess I’ll be 25 for the 5th time next year!
The tart looks truly decadent and birthday worthy!

  2. I made this for my husband’s birthday on Sunday. FABULOUS. Delicious and easy to put together. I can never understand why people go out and buy desserts when you can make something so fantastic. Everyone loved it, and I could have eaten it all.

That is wonderful!! Happy Birthday to your husband! I am SO glad you enjoyed this tart. I also can’t understand why people spend their money on all that artificial food… making your own is just as easy.

It’s like you had me in mind when you made this–love everything about this, Kate. I would have blissfully enjoyed this entire pan if it were given to me for my birthday. On second thought, like you, I would have to make it myself. Hope you had a great birthday!

  4. What can I say except this is pure indulgence.
I love the Real Housewives and The Shahs too!

Happy birthday! Hope you had a wonderful day 🙂 I love cakes and pies but the most important is having a great dessert that you love on your day.

  6. Happy Birthday My Dear, you are the same age as me, lol. I love the way you celebrate. I’m so trying to be good, but this isn’t helping, lol. Wishing you many more.

Happy birthday, Kate! I’m not a huge cake fan either and would choose a gooey pie over it any day, though I can’t say it would be chocolate. What you have there though, that looks amazing!

  12. So decadent and sinful…just the sort of thing one ought to enjoy on their 21st year! 😉

    Love your photos!

  13. A very happy birthday to you Kate! It sounds like you had a great day. This tart looks so pretty and creamy. 🙂 Enjoy another year at 21. I’m perpetually 27. 😉

Man, this looks just delicious! I confess I live within walking distance of Graeter’s Ice Cream and Dorothy Lane Market (home of the Killer Brownie) so my birthday “cake” was a hot fudge brownie sundae from those 2 local businesses.

I’m bookmarking this tart, though, because this looks perfect for a summer dessert!

    Thanks!
