Chocolate Mug Cake – Want cake? In just two minutes you can have this perfect single serving chocolate mug cake!
Two years ago today I became a Mother – truly, the best gift EVER. It was the day that I realized what love really was, what caring really meant, and what fear felt like.
This morning I woke up bright and early to make a quick cake for breakfast. I wanted to surprise the birthday girl with something that had sugar, chocolate, and more sugar on top.
I was so excited to give it to her, but I was turned down… WHAT?!?
She walked away from the table, walked up to the pantry, pointed up and said, “Cookie!”. She chose the Oreos over my quick, sugary, chocolatey mug cake.
I told her she could have an Oreo only if she would let me take a picture of her. She agreed. (Normally she runs far and away as soon as I pick up my camera… I run after her and snap with it until I get a decent picture).
That’s the money shot.
I really hope she likes the cake that she will have at her birthday party on Sunday. I probably should have ordered an OREO cake, instead. :/
Ana, Happy 2nd Birthday! You are my love, my кукла, my злато, my душа, my срце, my everything. (translation: doll, gold, soul, heart)
ENJOY!

this totally came out like a brick….sorry!
Hi Karen! I’m sorry the mug cake didn’t quite turn out for you, but all microwaves are different and maybe the baking-time is too long for your unit. I have made this cake plenty of times and I can assure you that it works. I truly am sorry, though, that you didn’t enjoy the cake. Thank you for chiming in.
Hi
this is really nice i made this
super easy !!
thanks for sharing
if we can use butter as an alternative of olive oil , it’s also good
Hey! I have also tried making these with my own recipe and they get a bit dry since we bake them in the microwave. So I would suggest to eat with some cream or even ice cream if you have! Improves the taste very successfully!
Try it out! Nice blog, feel free to visit mine if you like
Hahaha your daughter is so cute! The mug cake does look delicious even though she may have chosen the oreo over your dessert! 🙂
Loved reading this… beyond beautiful.
I’m a bit late, but: Happy birthday to your daughter!!! She’s one wonderful little treasure. I wish you and her many many happy moments, both with and without oreo cookies 😉

Happy birthday to your little babe! Kids are so funny, I think boys are the same way. They want oreo cookies in the face of delicious homemade desserts! Your cakes and photos look beautiful.
I hope Ana has a fun time at her birthday party today 🙂 I can’t wait to see what you did for it! And how did you ever come up with this recipe, Kate? It’s genius!
Ohhhhhh! Happy be-lated birthday to your precious little princess. I know how you feel. My life only really blossomed after I had my children. She is a gorgeous little angel. Hope she had a wonderful time on her birthday. I love the chocolate mug cake. YUM! : )
Aw, she’s beautiful just like her Momma. I was teary eyed reading this.
As for the recipe, bravo, it’s gorgeous. Such a great idea.
Happy Birthday Ana!! They grow up so fast don’t they Kate?!? My little guy would probably have gone for the oreo too… haha!
I guess my microwave must be more powerful than yours…after 2 minutes at high, the cake had exploded all over the mug, down onto the base of the microwave and had gotten a bit overcooked. Next time, I’ll reduce the power and probably mix everything together first, then pour into two mugs instead of one.
Otherwise, nice, quick recipe to satisfy a craving..thanks for sharing!
Oh no! I’m sorry that happened, Julie. :((((( The microwave should be set on high, which is I believe 1000 watts.
Your daughter is just beautiful! Love how she wanted the oreo instead, too funny:-) The cake looks perfect! Hugs, Terra
