“Every day you learn something new.”
That is the absolute truth.
Today I learned that 15 minutes of exercise a day can add 3 years to your life … I would like to know if it doubles if I do 30 minutes? And will all that exercise lead to immortality?
I also found out that, “every single hour of TV watched after the age of 25 shortened the viewer’s life expectancy by just under 22 minutes”.
I watch 5 hours of Reality TV-junk a week… and I’m 33.
According to the Math I just did in my head, I’ve lost a month of my life to TV?!?
Can I gain back that month, and the many more to come, if I exercise 15 minutes a day, every day? Thanks in advance, genius study/research people.
MSNBC just informed of another study; 60,000 pounds of ground beef was recalled due to E.Coli.
That’s just one more reason to have dessert first.
Have a brownie, please!
Double Chocolate Brownies
You will need:
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 cup good quality semisweet chocolate chips
- 1 stick of butter, melted
- 1 cup white sugar
- 2 eggs
- 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
- handful of roughly chopped walnuts
Directions:
- Preheat oven to 350.
- In a large bowl sift together the flour, cocoa powder, salt, and baking powder; mix in the chocolate chips. Set aside.
- In a separate bowl add in the eggs, butter, sugar, and vanilla and whisk just until combined.
- Whisk the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients just until combined; do not overmix.
- Spread the batter into a lightly greased 8-inch square pan and sprinkle the top with walnuts.
- Bake for 30 to 35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into brownies comes out with a few crumbs.
- Let cool for about 15 minutes before cutting.
ENJOY! And don’t watch the news.

Yum Yum and I love nuts on brownies
I wonder if you watch exercise reality shows, what that would do to the life expectancy? LOL! You brownies look so moist, and chocolatey! I made my hubby come and look at the delicious pictures:-) Hugs, Terra
Okay I love these brownies and I’m just going to forget that bit of news I cannot remember you told us now.
Congratulations Kate!
I totally agree…dessert first. I might just eat the whole pan of these brownies!
OH NO! Those are not the statistics I want to hear! But, I’m with you, if we are losing minutes by watching our favorite t.v.shows, might as well pile on the desserts and enjoy our time while we are here! And these brownies look like a great way to indulge.
This dessert is a one to die for, Kate!!I love anything with chocolate and if the chocolate is doubled
then I’d like that even twice more
! And congrats on Top 9 again!!!

I’d happily give up watching TV (shocking statistic) for a couple of these gorgeous brownies.
I am always dessert first and your double chocolate brownies looks to die for. After work gathering the ingredients and getting to work to make my own double chocolate brownies.
This would be great with REESES.
This is sweet, double chocolate decadence deliciousness. Nicely done, Kate!
Congrats on Top 9! Beautiful photo and double chocolate brownies will get me off the couch, stat!
What if you exercise and watch tv at the same time? Brownies are always my favorite. These sound awesome.
Ohh that looks soo soo good! Congrats on top 9!!!!
Yay on the Top Nine Kate! These deserved it!
Love the extra chocolate in these brownies and I am a sucker for anything with nuts too
i’d eat this brownie before dinner any day! brownies are my fave….this looks so moist and fudgey. mmm…
ps – we are the same age (well, i will be in about 1 hour EST)! lol!
These brownies look delicious and your post was great! I read it out loud to hubby…. and we both wondered – does the loss of TV life include news watching? If so – we’re in big trouble…we’re news junkies!
delicious yummy looking brownies
Eek, should I even think about time lost spent online!?! I’m thinking these brownies are the perfect distraction…I love the extra chocolate
Okay… this is just down right naughty! Those brownies will definitely take a month my life off because I would eat the whole darn pan!! : ) They look unbelievably good. I think this is a perfect brownie recipe.
Oh man, give me these brownies! My sweet-tooth has been insatiable lately
That’s exactly why I don’t watch the news lol Too depressing!
But I will definitely take your advice and eat these brownies first =)
Great stats but the most important is missing. Do you gain living time by eating a lot of this great brownie recipe?
You had me at double chocolate.
Lovely brownies.
Is it just me that thought I could sneak in a little exercise while I watch TV and I’m gold?
I love how fudgey they look and the beautiful crinkled top is making me hungry!
I’ve been craving chocolatey desserts for a couple days and your brownies look amazing!!!!
wow they look delicious. so mouth watering. Can have them anytime of the day.
YUM!!!!! beautiful brownies.. dessert first is a great idea
This recipe sounds so good and they look so delicious and moist too.
Or just have dessert instead! Great post.
Brownies RULE!!!
Hey girlie, I’ve got brownies on my site too! How about we load up a shoebox and swap.
DEAL!! I’d LOVE to eat a batch of your creation!!!
I think baking has to be good for your health too- tack on another 5 days to your life expectancy
These brownies look wonderful and must be the perfect treat for a chocoholic!
And that’s why I don’t have cable
LOVELY brownies. I want to drown in them.
Yeah, I’ve never gotten sick off a brownie! And isn’t chocolate good for you
That is why you can never go wrong with dessert
Hi Kate,
As I was thinking about what I need to pack for my cooking/baking date with my cousin, I realized I never made your brownies. So, I’m off to make these but, I think you’re missing the egg addition in your directions. I was wondering if I misread it but, you don’t mention when to add the eggs so I’m going to assume it’s with the other wet ingredients? Please confirm this. Thanks so much
I’ll do a post on this!
Fixed! Thank you for catching that, Hester! xoxo
Stunning brownies, Kate! As long as I have those, I wouldn’t worry about anything!
Yummy brownies Kate, guess we were thinking alike today. I say we eat brownies while watching the news. At least we’ll enjoy part of it!
Kate! These brownies are beautiful! I heard that piece today that only 15 minutes of exercise will increase longevity. But I don’t know. I think I’d rather believe in the power of dark chocolate that you used to creative these beauties! (Wonderful photo, too!) : )
LOL
I read that study just a few days ago myself, and I have resigned myself to the fact that my TVs going to kill me. But I love the way you think
I hope the genius research people see this post and answer the question… the brownies look incredible! And the nuts on top are perfect! Thanks for sharing
Thanks for sharing the brownie recipe and the interesting facts as well.
I guess I should limit my TV viewing!
Good Lord these look delicious. Nuts on top are the perfect touch to any brownies.
Sounds weird, but I love brownies with nuts on them. A brownie without nuts isn’t a brownie at all. Like pizza without peppperoni.
Curt, I’m so with you on that!! I can’t have a brownie without nuts. Then it’s just a cake.
These chocolate brownies look AWESOME!
Kate, just wait till next week. Then “they” will tell you that everything that was bad for you last week is now good for you and everything that ws good for you is now bad.
But bad or good, I want those brownies. Before I lose any more minutes off of my life.
I love dessert first, yes!! These look so decadent. I love making brownies from scratch, yours look so delicious!
Oh deng, I watch way too much TV. Is the same said about the Internet too? I volunteer to conduct a study on if I eat one of these brownies a day, if it motivates you to work out for 30 minutes a day as well. These look so good!
WOW! My mouth is watering. These look perfect!
I shouldn’t crave for those .. no I shouldn’t! By the way if i add white chocolate will I still call it brownie ?
They looks so damn perfect!
Does stirring count as exercise? Then, I’m in. And I’d love to stir myself to 3 extra years of life with those delicious brownies!
I can always expect to find scrumptious things when I stopped by here. Yum!!
I think this study refers to the real couch potato’s who spend all day in front of the telly. For those of us that do other things as well as watch T.V. (with some sport in there somewhere) then I don’t think we have anything to worry about. I do totally agree with eating dessert first though!
Kate, this brownie look so good, love the dark color and the texture of it…almost creamy.
Hope you are having a great week
I will take a brownie! I hate the news! It is always bad, and it is always changing. Reality and junkie celebrity news is at least entertaining!
Kate, these look sooooooo moist and delicious! And they’re from scratch! I love you! I’ve never made brownies before but this recipe looks so easy! Totally going to make some later so that I can bring them over for my cooking/baking date with Emmy tomorrow
ahhh these double chocolate brownies look decadent… who ate these all???
Ooh these look like a chocoholics dream! By the looks of the picture it is a dream come true. Thanks for sharing this special treat-Yum!
I’m always looking for an excuse to have dessert first (or instead)! Beautiful photos of what looks like an incredible treat.
These look absolutely delicious and your pictures are gorgeous as always! Love this!
I’m just gonna say that you should feel proud to only watch 5 hours or Reality TV a week, my number is much higher. And these brownies are going to my TV watching partner!
“Life is short, have another brownie”? That’s totally a philosophy I can get behind…especially with fudgy, extra-chocolate brownies like these…
Haha! Great post! That’s good to know about the 15 minutes of exercise because I woke up late today and that was all I had time for! Though, I watch way too much Bravo, so I might be in trouble there! Btw, those brownies look SO good! I’m a brownie fanatic!
You can gain that time back by eating brownies!
Mmmmm…..Brownies…..double chocolate…..*wipes drool from keyboard*….Now what if you exercise during the comercials of your reality shows….will that cancel each other out? Just curious! Brownies are fantastic!
I just tweeted the 15min-of-exercise-a-day link
thank God I don’t watch TV, just the occasional CSI and of course TrueBlood… These brownies look delicious, I use the same recipe to make brownies but will try this one next time I crave them
I made my son double chocolate cookies for his birthday party and he was in heaven. These might absolutely blow his mind.
You had me at double chocolate! These look fantastic…really really reallllly fantastic. I have such a soft spot for brownies
Since I think chasing a 5 year-old all day counts of exercise, I guess I’m going to live forever. Those studies always crack me up. First eggs will kill you; then they’re the healthiest thing you can eat; then they’ll kill you with cholesterol. It never ends.
If these weren’t chocolate (double, no less), I’d be all over them.
You just made me laugh
I’d like to know the answers to the questions you asked too, I wonder how they’ll combine the results together hehe.
(Though I have to say, I’m sick of seeing everything being recalled because of e. coli… it happens way too often!)
As for the brownies: yum! I love this recipe. I’d have the dessert first, no matter what happens to beef
Oh no! I watch a ton of reality TV too. Maybe we should jog in place while we watch it!!
